FOUNDATIONS OF THE ETERNAL CITY
This is an essay on the archaeoastronomy of Rome and most of the Eternal Cities of great nations which have come and gone before. If you are not familiar with the legend of the foundation of Rome, please review the legend of Romulus and Remus at The True Myth of Romulus. Then proceed through the following star charts to see what transpired at the foundation of the great Roman Republic, before the tyranny of the Empire began.
On the vernal equinox of 753 BC, the axis of the galaxy passed through the seven hills of Rome. This was the year that Romulus became the ruler of the Eternal City.
Looking toward the bottom of the galactic axis under the Eternal City we see a grand conjunction in Aries of all the wandering stars except Mars, Saturn, and Pluto.
When the Eternal City was aligned at the seven hills of Rome on the vernal equinox of 753 BC, Mars was on the nadir meridian between Andromeda and Sculptor. Andromeda is jumping over the wall in east Pisces. Thus, Andromeda is Romulus, and the one lying upon the bottom axis is Remus, for the god of war, Mars, had favored Romulus. We can see that Mars was also in attendance of the mother of the twins, who is also Andromeda. According to the legend this was not a cordial relationship, for Mars took the young lady, who was supposed to be a vestal Virgin.
If we look above the city of seven hills we see the retreat of the Vestal Virgin, Rhea Silvia, who was to become the mother of twin boys.
It is assured that the founder's of Rome knew about the position of Saturn, since that planet had been called the Ancient of Days long before Mars took favors from Rhea Silvia. Saturn, who was also known as Cronus, sat at the knee of Ophiuchus, the one known around the world as Sky Father, and Opener of the Ways. Without knowing the existence of Pluto at the Virgin, the founders of Rome still got the message. This was the beginning of the Eternal City we have come to know as Roma.
The city is like an island in the cosmos. To recognize the island's landfall, you have to see the complete horizon around the seven hills where Rome was to be settled.
Starting in the south-southeast, we see the she wolf by the name Lupus.
Toward the west we see the twins, Remus and Romulus, walking hand in hand along the cosmic beach.
The famous sculpture of Romulus and Remus at the teats of the she wolf is a clear expression of a "Milky Way," or the Via Lactia. Rising through the opening in the celestial wreath in the northwest, is Perseus, the chosen prince. His sword and the skull in his sackcloth tells us that Remus has gone to the land of shadows.
Romulus is entering the house of the Ruler, Cepheus, the King who sits just east of the queen of the north.
Beyond the king and the swan, rising on the east horizon upon the wings of an eagle, is Antinous. Antinous is the non-self created one, or the one who trusts in the Creator Father. In the legends of Egypt and Rome, this is the birthplace of the gods Horus and Mithras, who were known as "beloved sons." So, there is more to these legends than just oral traditions, and Rome and Egypt had more in common than the history books have revealed. Beyond this birthplace of sons of gods are the four horses of the Apocalypse. Look for the white horse with a bow and a crown, the red horse with the power to kill by great desire, and the black horse with a pair of balances. They trod the land of merchants called the ecliptic, and their colors are given to them by the nature of their places in the stars of heaven. Saturn marked the end and beginning of the legendary location of creation at the center of the galaxy (CG). Above the land of merchants is the fourth horse. It is a pale horse, for it rests in the fringe of the clouds of heaven holding a serpent to demonstrate the power of life and death, and heaven and hell. This is the Opener of the Ways who has the power to create within the image of gods. This is the primeval father image which is an archetype for every great nation that has been established on the earth. He is known by many names, but his essence is Sky Father.
1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
These four horses are shown on the Tauroctony scenes in the Mithras places of worship. It should be clear that the Mithraic Mysteries were more than legends. But, more importantly to the Legend of Romulus and Remus, these four horses are located at the tail of the wolf which rests on a sea of milk. This is the mammon which fed the founders of Rome. The She-Wolf is located at the physical desire side of the galactic center beyond Scorpio. This direction is not the direction of the merchants along the ecliptic or precessional path, this is the direction along the greater world of the visible cosmos, is the direction toward Gemini. It is an Apocalypse so powerful, that it was held secret under penalty of death until it was revealed by John the Divine a thousand years after Rome was founded. That secret, though presented to the world, was lost because the "darkness comprehendeth it not." Its power comes from the fact that it is a "timeless" metaphor. Astrological and precessional metaphors are time metaphors. The myth of Romulus and Remus is a place metaphor. It is the place where life occurs. It is a metaphor for a place named reality, the place where power is enabled.
By conquest Rome set out to eliminate all the other bulls of heaven after the Empire began under Caesar Augustus. The Bull encompassed the cultures of the Persians, the Egyptians, and the worshipers of El, who had become allied with Rome as slaves and freedmen. The rumor in Rome was that more water from the Orontes flowed down the Tiber than its own water. These were the great rivers of the Middle East and the peninsula of Italy. It should also be clear that Remus would have to return from the dead to reestablish the balance between masculine rationality and feminine wisdom which Rome had so completely upset. This lost mother's son has yet to return to the living flesh of Western Civilization.
There are some conjectures that the arrival of the MOther's Son will occur on, or about, May 4, 2000. On that day a Grand Conjunction will occur in Aries, much like it did when Rome was founded. Could it be the return of Remus and the rule of the Sons of Mothers, or will the Sons of Fathers persist in public denial of the cosmic wisdom which had been present when Rome was founded? The need for balance is apparent, but then again, the Mithraic Roman legal system has prevented the endless Jihads from continuing on the colossal scale which they had occurred since the founding of Egypt in 3100 BC and the sacking of Thebes, Egypt in 667 BC. Here is the coming Grand Conjunction at El Amarna, Egypt to show the similarities.
El Amarna is the location of the City of God established by Amenophis IV at Akhetaten, Egypt in 1370 BC. After his Eternal City fell, Egypt never regained its divine place in the world of nations. His followers established the rule of law and judgment under Seti I and his son Ramesses II. This is the time when the great Exodus from Egypt occurred. Eventually the Minotaur of Egypt known as Apis-Osiris (Taurus-Orion) was defeated exactly upon the schedule they had predicted two or three millennia earlier. When the coming Grand Conjunction occurs in Aries, on May 4, 2000 AD, Mars will be on the side of the Bull. Will Osiris and Remus rise from the ashes of the eternal fire of time like the Phoenix, or will Western Civilization keep wandering in the wilderness not comprehending the archetypes of its soul?
It may be just a whale of a story. But, it is history, whether we believe it or not.
There is a famous axiom that says that those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. In this close up, it appears that Aries has finally run into the wall, as a brilliant hero and mother's son (Orion) comes into the Eternal City riding on a donkey (Lepus) once more. Will the donkey become one of the Horses of the Apocalypse, or will the twins be placed in a basket and sent down the river of fire where a man holds a fire stick in his hands with a new dream of starting the climb to the top of the world?
Two thousand seven hundred and fifty three years ago, our forefather's founded a great Empire. In doing so they left a legacy and a legal code that has forever changed the experiences of the children of the gods. They eliminated the multiplicity of our archetypes for the sake of imperialist rule. Today, we ponder the "One World Government" as if it had never happened before. That is a paradigm that needs never be underestimated or forgotten. In just the last century we have seen the likes of such imperialism in fascist Italy and Germany, communist Russia, China, and Cuba. It appears that we are still not capable of paying attention to the lessons of history. Could it be because science has turned the stars into burning balls of gas? When the stars had spirits, the heavens and the earth quaked in wonder and awe, as well as fear of reprisal for inattention.
So awesome was the ancient sight of the heavens that the foundation of an Eternal City could be planned by a simple vision from the heavens. When Rome was founded by a beloved son, the mystery was hidden for the sake of the Eternal City. The Cosmic Eternal City has not changed in fifty thousand years. In order to create an Eternal City on Earth, it is necessary to listen to the voice in the cloud over the cosmic waters. And straightaway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Mark 1:10-11) No Eternal City has ever been founded in which the beloved son of the Cosmos was not present as a guide. No matter the name, that son will always be truthful consciousness of the Self Created Cosmos, and the Father Image which it carries throughout the generation.
Let us return now to the place where the Mother's Son began to be about his father's business.
In the story of the Queen of Sheba, we learn of the defrocking of the goddess.
I Kings 10:1-5
1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she
came to prove him with hard questions.
2 And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold,
and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in
3 And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the king, which he told her not.
4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom, and the house that he had built,
5 And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD;
there was no more spirit in her.
With the words, "there was no more spirit in her," we have moved out of the world of the goddesses and into the world of "My Father's Business." The obeiscance of the goddess to the barque enthrones headstrong ram on the Denderah zodiac is the exact same words expressed in the form of glyphs. Here, we see the seven spirits of the goddess are forced to yield to the unified spirit of the god. The god contains the horns of the ram Aries, and the horns of Khnum under the solar disc. The horns of Khnum are symbolic of rational creation, for Khnum was the Great Potter who fabricated man on his wheel. Man in this metaphor is the rational aspects of consciousness. The power of the rational mind is enacted in the real world through the emotion of righteousness, but it is purely a mental construct, and all righteousness is self righteousness. The focus on a single image, versus the holistic seven images means that the "father's business" is the establishment of names and metaphors for action.
After the Queen of Sheba has gone, and her spirit is remove, the business of "rationalizing" the creation can begin. On the Denderah monument we see that the first step is identified with the subliminal impressions of the created world received from the mother goddess, symbolised by four serpents on the box before the headstrong ram. These are the four elements of creation, earth, water, air, fire which have been recorded in prior experience into the child of heaven, symbolised by Harpocrates resting on the lotus. The child has a flail, indicating physical experience. It sucks its finger, as evidence that this is a mother's son. Before the child stands a hawk headed man representing inspiration. The two stars by the child and the lotus and the one star by the inspired man are joined in the symbol of the tyrant on a throne. This tyrant has brawny shoulders, but no head and no arms. The lack of arms indicates the inability to be creative. The lack of head indicates the absence of rational knowledge. The throne and the the horns of Khnum indicate the power of conscious thought. The result of the conscious thought in another square containing four ram heads, a set of Khnum horns, and a solar disk. The message is that the child of heaven must use the subliminal spirits to achieve the inspired realization of the rational enlightenment of the meaning of the four elements, earth, water, air, and fire. This passage is echoed in Luke 2:46-49; And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? The words of Luke, and the glyphs around the tyrant's throne are indicative of the nature of adolescence. This is the most difficult passage in any life, for we come into it without understanding, and we are led to believe that the rationalizations of our mind are truth. The strength of a youthful body makes us particularly headstrong, and we become subject to the ideals of self rationalizations, which are images of self righteousness, based upon the experience of theories.
Armed with words to live by, the adolescent converts them to material laws and attempts to become a Great Shepherd. The youth is now shown with the skull cap of Ptah, the Egyptian god who created the world with his word and his Potter's Wheel. In this aspect, the physical ram and the headstrong nature of Khnum are translated into a human form of the same ideal. This human form is powered by words. The youth of Ptah is the one which is then tempted by the devil in Matt 4:3-4, "And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." The celestial location of this bread to stone message occurs high in the cosmos, although the message is received in the valley of death below. The idea of stone words is clearly represented on the Denderah monument, as the object in the hands of the youth with the skull cap of Ptah. The material aspect of the bread, which is the "word of God," is carried by the jackal headed man in front of the tablet. The jackal is the Egyptian symbol for material existence, for the jackal, Anubis, was the care taker of the carrion of the body.
Before we move on, we need to examine the five stars under the tablet. The tablet has four bars, representing the four "words of God,"earth, water, air, and fire. The additional star carries the reference to subjectivity. In other words, the Ptah youth has the subject of creation in his control. The subject of creation is the Son of God. At this stage, the Ptah youth does not carry the Mother or Father aspects of all subjectivity, for he only knows the story, he has yet to accomplish life.
The accomplishment of life at this stage is to become a Great Shepherd, and become satisfied by placing others into the bondage of his righteousness. On the surface, this ideal is empowered by the sense of self righteousness. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. The flock that this shepherd will protect and lead, is an imaginary flock, to which many people may become attached. The Great Shepherd is shown as the large ram strutting with a swan before it. The swan is the symbol of Zeus, when he satisfied the passion of Leda. Here the Great Shepherd is shown in satisfaction with bound subjects.
The fundamental requirement for the creation of any Eternal City is that an ideal be established which can be directly connected to a greater reality. That process is accomplished with the action in the words, And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. The astonishment comes when the initiate looks to the top of the axis of the Cosmic Rome in 753 B.C. There is a field of corn (wheat) on top of the galactic axis. A shepherd works his field with a crook in his hand, as he steps over a rock while plowing the field and walking with his hunting dogs. Beyond the goddess lying at his feet, walks a regal beast. That beast is the Great Shepherd of the Denderah monument, the Sphinx of Egypt, and the Lion of Judah. Luke 4:5-7 echoes the asterisms of the heavens with the words, "And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. Matthew 4:5-6 takes a slightly different slant, but he ties the Eternal City into the same perception of the heavens; Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. The important point is that any adolescent who strive to create a kingdom based upon book learning must be aware of being tempted by any material documentation of the world, which does not represent true meaning of cosmic teachings. The devil is the ultimate metaphor of a tyrant, and on a psychological spiritual level, the ego.
Achieving proper status as a Great Shepherd requires the ambition of an overpower rationalization; a tyrant of the mind. Even though it was written in Genesis that Adam should not tempt God with knowledge of good and evil, the arrogant self righteousness of the rational mind completes the act of acquiring and ingesting the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The meaning of the fruit was truthfully stated by the serpent, when the emotional one, Eve, pondered its power in Genesis 3:4-5; And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. The adolescent is not told that his accomplishments before commencement and after book learning are seeds of temptation, because that will depend upon how the adolescent applies what is learned.
The ultimate practice of being about "my father's business" is defined in the heavens, on the Denderah monument, and in the Gospel verses. The idea that Christianity is directed toward the "Father's Business" is not news. However, the idea that a Hellenistic cultural transition yielded the essence of the Gospels is a perception which has been lost for many centuries. The Denderah monument tells why the process occurred, and whose sacrifice was being submitted to the Cosmic Being. Selket stands with the "bow and arrow" of the constellation Sextans. Her arrow is aimed directly at the sun disc on the headstrong ram, where the image of mother is kneeling in obeiscance. From the headstrong ram through the Great Shepherd, the Denderah monument describes the Father's Business. That business is to take the residue of subliminal emotions from the Mother Goddess and create a Great Shepherd. This is not a process in which compassion can be allowed, for compassion will keep the child on the lotus in the state where he holds his finger to his mouth, in an oral fixation for mother's kindness. When the Great Shepherd works are completed, then the compassion of Aquarius can be brought into bear, and the ponderings of the Mother Goddess will be answered. The words of the Mother Goddess are recorded in John 14:1-4; "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know." The mother of western civilization was the great civilization of Egypt. She taught the anarchists who followed her all that she knew. Eventually, the spirit of Isis in Egypt knew that it must go the way of Osiris, or the fledgling human civilization would never reach the status of Great Shepherd.
Was it right for Western Civilization to abandon the emotional spiritual world in search of the rational material destiny? Apparently the architects at Denderah believed it was, for the angle made at the solar disc on the headstrong ram is nearly a perfect right angle. As a guide to the heaven born concept of destiny they hid a message within the stone to help those who would seek to understand the agenda of their lost and forgotten parents. The angle made between the hands of Bastet, and the Adept through the center of the composition is exactly equivalent to six hundred and sixty six years. It is the infamous mark of wisdom from Revelations 13:16-18; "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Time is what is at stake in life, but time belongs to no man nor beast, time is just a measure of the passing will of God. Without the measure of time and the knowledge of the precession of the equinoxes, the foundation of any great city will quickly fade into perdition.
We cannot leave the Great Shepherd tending his flock, for the laws that were fabricated by the youth of Ptah had five stars rather than seven. The jackal in front of him held one star. Together these icons represent the pursuit of Mother Nature, a process soon to be called modern science, for it would lose the five stars and the metaphysics of the tablet. Singlemindedly the rationalists of the Father's School would set out rape Mother Nature. For, the Great Shepherd of Western Civilization was, and is, just an adolescent, that does not know what the parents knew. He does not know how to raise his own children. The stars of the father and the mother are absent from the mind of the rational youth of Ptah, his life is mere words, and his accomplishments are those of others whom he leads. The jackal has carried the carrion of Western Civilization and led it on a path toward mutual assured destruction. All civilization must raise a goodly crop of Great Shepherds, but without parents, there are no children. Without wise parents there are no wise children. Children are the subject of tomorrow, and without them, there is no tomorrow.
Subsequent to the construction of the great temple at Denderah, the Pharaoh Cleopatra, to whom the temple is dedicated, and her son Caesarean, her son by Julius Caesar, were brought to their demise. The loss of the last Pharaoh, and the next Pharaoh occurred at the intention of an adopted son of Caesar Augustus called Octavian. After seeing to the demise of the two Pharaohs and rightful heirs to the throne of Rome and Egypt, Octavian became Emperor Caesar Augustus, and was declared Pater Patre of the Western World. After his death, in 30 A.D., he was made a god. This great Shepherd had neither mother, nor father, nor wisdom. He was tempted by the devil to accept the kingdoms of the world, and he brought the whole of Western Civilization to be obeisant to his command. His Pax Romana was a classic example of an ego usurping the kingdoms of the world.
To see what the future could have been had Cleopatra and her son been able to fulfill the prophecies of the temples of Egypt, and the original destiny of the Eternal City, follow the wheel within the wheel where the eight bound kings of Western Civilization carry out the dictates of the laws of the subsequent Roman world, in which we live today. One of the eight kings is a false king, an inflated ego, which must follow the way described in Revelation 17:8-11; "The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. These enigmatic phrases and versus of the Book of Revelation reveal the ancient secret code of the Eternal City, for which a punishment of death was the prescribed remedy. Those phrases can only be restored to their rightful intent by putting them together with the Rock of Ages from the ceiling of the Osiris Chapel at the temple to Hathor in Denderah, Egypt. This journey cannot be completed by an arrogant mind. Each step taken forward from this moment must be with the utmost humility, understanding that the wisdom of the ages is not what we know, it is what we have forgotten as a result of an arrogant adolescent child called Western Civilization.
