CHARIOT OF THE GODS
The following is preliminary discussion of the Journey of Elijah's Chariot
Flight of the
Eagle presented the birth of a child on
the wings of the eagle, Aquila. This birth was symbolic of a reincarnation
of wisdom from prior generations. Its logic is easily understood when we
are children, but along the way of life we often lose its perspective. The
loss of perspective occurs when the perception of potential danger exceeds
the perception of potential reward. The present discussion regards the
intersection of the galaxy and the ecliptic between Gemini and Taurus, which
is diametrically opposite the eagle's flight shown below.
the eagle's intersection are creative moments. As such, they represent actions
of gods, rather than men. Men are essentially puppets on a spiritual string
which is tied with emotional and rational knots. Thus, we should expect to
see these type of symbols opposite the eagle's intersection.
As we can see from these constellations at the opposite intersection, there is much action occurring which signifies struggles with rational and emotional conflict. First, we see Cancer, the crab, which symbolizes the essence of sensation at the edge of cosmic waters, with her motto, "I Feel." After Cancer is Gemini, whose brightest stars draw our attention to their heads. Gemini carries the motto, "I Think." Below Gemini and the galactic/ecliptic intersection is Orion. Orion is a brilliant constellation with the clear capacity to put up a fight to protect the twins from the raging bull at Taurus. However, Orion has lost his head. Orion is the hero who tries to save the world. His orientation perpendicular to the ecliptic under the galactic intersection implies his heroic stature as Atlas holding up the celestial earth. What we do not see in the present figure is that Orion is riding on a donkey. Thus, our hero is, in fact, arrogantly sacrificing himself to save others for the sake of his own eternal purpose. He is a "voice crying in the wilderness." Like John the Baptist, he stands in a lake of fire. This hero knows the trials and tribulations and prefers to protect and defend the Gateway of Men from the marauders of the deep.
Above the bull is Perseus. This angel carries the Medusa's head in his sack. By looking away from incomprehensible emotions, Perseus becomes the premier example of personal responsibility in the heavens. It is Perseus that has found the opening in the clouds and parted the sea to lead the lost children to the upper world in an Exodus from the lower world of Egypt.
Between Orion and Perseus beyond Taurus is Aries, the Ram. This is the house of the stiffnecked ones who blindly pursue their identities in the shadow of the valley of death to come. The Age of Aries was a tumultuous period in the gaining of spiritual identity for Western Civilization. We had learned much regarding the human psyche, and during the prior ages we had acquired substantial material wealth within our cultures. As a result, the anarchy and tyranny that grew in civilizations between Babylon and Egypt reached dominating proportions. As we came out of the Age, we were left with the mistaken belief that Greece was the source of our science and culture. Although there is insufficient space for a discussion on what was lost during the Age of Aries, by the time the period ended and the Age of Pisces began, ancient cosmic consciousness and respect for ancestors had ceased to be an objective of Western Civilization. Aryans pursued the rational description of their being, while denying many of the archetypes that gave them their basic strengths. The most significant technology to come out of the Age of Aries was written communication at the level of the common people. Literacy, though hardly complete, was undeniably the way to truth and successful living. Subservience to God Kings had been overcome by the written word, as it became mightier than the sword.
To keep the literate masses in check, rulers became tyrants. Individuals with cosmic wisdom were pursued and destroyed. The period of secular tyrants was completed when Caesar Augustus took the helm of Rome. During his first weeks and months as Emperor, Augustus purged all the intellectually elite from the populous. In the conquest of the world, Rome was determined to stamp out spiritualists and all cultures that did not accept the deification of the Roman Emperor. Rome was the only "civilized" culture in the world in their view. All barbarians would eventually come over to the earth centered rational order of Rome ,or be destroyed.
The power behind the success of Rome was the salvation message in the young religion of the Mithraic Mysteries. David Ulansey has written on the Mithraic Mysteries in his book The Origins of the Mithraic Mysteries: Cosmology and Salvation in the Ancient World. The following discussion uses the Mithraic Mysteries to illustrate why the passage from Leo to Cancer and on to the lower cosmic world is called the Gateway of Men.
Central t the theology of Mithras is the tauroctony scene. Hundreds of sites were constructed on the perimeters of the Roman Empire which contained the Tauroctony scene. This is a very profound statement regarding the vision of cosmic reality. It shows Mithras, the prime example of the monotheistic religion, at the moment of realizing that he does not have to kill the bull. His helpers include a raven, scorpion, snake, little dog, and a little lion. Behind the bull at its chin is a spring tree with an upward torch and a bull's head on a mountain. Beyond the bull's tail is a tree ready for harvest with a downward torch and a scorpion. These are all time markers for August 6, 2214 BC, or a reasonably close approximation to that date.
Most important is the killing of the bull. This
act is a clear indication that the Age of Taurus is ending. But, it also
speaks volumes with regards to the psychic morality of a Mithras follower.
It is the initiate's objective to overcome the false truths which prevent
him from seeing the real truth. Unlike Egypt, this is not a gnostic pursuit.
It says that truth is self evident and an initiate must overcome disinformation
which blocks the truth. When the bull of the mother is overcome, the initiate
becomes a man. That is evident in the following star chart which shows the
vernal equinox in 2214 BC occurring as Perseus bags the Medusa and ascends
through the opening in the cosmic plane to the upper world.
The upper world of Mithras is shown in the following
star chart. Along the celestial equator of 2214 BC we can find, from the
left, the heavenly father Ophiuchus, the physical symbol of desire as Scorpio,
the unconscious spirit of righteous habit as Hydra, with the raven on its
tail under Virgo, and the little dog beyond the serpent's head. These
constellations fight the lower world of Taurus as earthly markers of the
upper world of Leo. On August 6, 2214 BC, the planets Mars and Venus were
in conjunction with Regulus, at the fore paws of Leo. Both the sun and the
moon were between Leo and Virgo, and Mercury was at her back. This celestial
virgin was memorialized by the Romans with Vestal Virgins.
Coming above the galactic plane is the constellation
of Auriga. The man in the constellation represents salvation of the Mithraic
Mysteries. This symbol of salvation is older than Egypt, and it was the Hyksos
community of shepherd worshipers that conquered Egypt before the beginning
of the 18th Dynasty around 1500 BC. Within the constellation are stars that
make a convincing image of a chariot. It was the chariots of the Hyksos that
allowed them to conquer Egypt, for Egypt did not have chariots. Subsequently,
Egypt made chariots and conquered the whole world from the Mediterranean
to the Tigris-Euphrates River. Like the Hyksos, Egyptians, Persians, and
Alexander the Great, Rome conquered the world with the war chariot during
the final 1500 years of the Age of Aries. Thus, the chariot came to be known
as the principle weapon of war and conquest. It is the aspect of conquest
of the material world that dominates the meaning of the chariot in the present
context. The following chart puts the complete Gateway of Men into perspective
around the only constellation that crosses the galaxy near the intersection
of the galactic and ecliptic planes between Gemini and
The Tauroctony scene showing Mithras as he overcomes the bull has a banner across the top that clearly demonstrates the astronomical vision and the cosmic perspective of Mithraism. The banner is reproduced here for discussion.
Notice the horses to the left (east) rising upward and the chariot horses to the right (west) descending downward. These are symbols of the asterisms at the intersections of the ecliptic and the galaxy near Antinous, the rising son, and Auriga, the descending son. To the right of the four rising horses stands a man, who is the father Ophiuchus. In the center of the banner of the upper world is an angel with a raised arm. This angel is the constellation of Virgo and the arm holds the seeds at the top of the upper world, which is Coma Berenices, or the ears of corn in the sky. The action on the banner, dominated by the chariot, moves toward the right, or in the precessional direction.
Between the galactic intersections are seven altars. These seven altars represent the seven spirits of God. Three to the left correspond to three constellations at the ecliptic/galactic intersection at Sagittarius, Scorpio, and Ophiuchus. These are also the aspects of communication, and represent the highest three spirits in the Mithraic grades; cognition, medium, and message (Perses, Sun Runner, Father). The four altars to the right of Virgo represent the four constellations at the ecliptic/galactic intersection at Taurus, Orion, Gemini, and Auriga. These are also aspects of the four lower grades of the created world; earth, water, air, and fire (crow, nymphus, soldier, lion). What this tells us is that initiates to the Mithraic Mysteries were given a profound understanding of the cosmic perspective and Rome's place in it. Historians and archaeologists tend to under play the importance of religion on ancient cultures, because they tend to be rationalists with little taste for spiritual truths, or they arrogantly define all spiritualism as superstition. But, all ancient cultures had to solve the cosmic perception problem before they could expect their cultures to survive through the generations. Roman Mithraic culture has to stand as one of the greatest developments in human theological accomplishment, as well as its well established legal system.
Where Rome failed, all cultures eventually fail. Success breeds pride, which results in arrogance and destruction. That message come through very clearly in the Mithraic system. Theirs was a men only in a code of silence creed. The code of silence was necessary to disarm the uninitiated, and suppress the arrogance resulting from achievement. But, one can fight the bull for only so long, before material habits consume the soul. On this subject, there was probably never a more materialistic mundane culture that exceeded Roman culture. Pragmatism degenerated into expediency and capitulation. Righteousness was divined by the tyrants in power, and all cosmic perspective was eventually lost. After the conquest of the world, Rome had no infrastructure to keep its citizens on a track to upper world consciousness. An orgy of decadence and brutality eventuality brought the culture down, with the aid of counter culture moves by the enemies of Rome in Christian mysticism.
Christian mysticism evolved out of the cosmic
perspective inherited from Egypt, Persia, Greece, Israel, and Mithraism.
By uniting the essential tenets of these great cosmic perspectives, a universal
(catholic) faith was born. It consciously presented the Good Shepherds of
the Hyksos, Israel, and Mithras, in the living example of Christ. Christianity
was dominated by the passage through the under world. For, the greatest message
in Christianity is the resurrection of the Son of God, which is a combination
of Osiris-Horus, and Mithras-Sol Invictus. These theologies had all known
about the two gateways between the upper and lower worlds. They also knew
that rational behavior can postpone spiritual death. But, until an individual
could bring back the spiritual truth of the ancients, they could not be born
of the spirit and raised from the dead. A man can be rational. Only gods
can bring themselves back from the dead. That message is lost to any who
have not ventured through the bottom of the world. It is the most important
message of any theology, even the leaven of the Sadducees who preached against
resurrection of the dead.
As you venture into the cosmos to watch the journey
of Elijah's Chariot,
consider the words from the gospel of
Matthew 17:1-13 (KJV).
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother,
and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun,
and his raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord,
it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles;
one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them:
and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying,
Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
10 And his disciples asked him, saying,
Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11 And Jesus answered and said unto them,
Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not,
but have done unto him whatsoever they listed.
Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
These verses describe the banner of the upper domain of the Mithraic Tauroctony scene. "His face shown as the sun," are words describing Sol Invictus on the left side of the banner, and the face of the Son of Man in Auriga, as he sees the heavenly gate open for him.
The discussion of the transfiguration of Jesus, Moses and Elijah carries with it a statement regarding the time of the return of the Son of Man to high heaven. The moment is recorded with the words, "Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead." We have shown that the chariot carries the Son of Man. When the chariot reaches it highest place in the heavens, the statement will be fulfilled. That moment will occur when the sixth hour is at the summer solstice and the banner pole on the chariot stands precisely on the summer solstice. This statement is further supported with verses from other Testaments of Elijah.
Presently the task is to recognize the pointer which identifies the timing of the raising of the Son of Man. Is it the child born at the right hand of the father, Ophiuchus, or is it the man on the chariot of fire that descended into the underworld of Osiris? Could it be both? The child on the eagle's wing will not crest again for twelve thousand years. Today the child sits on the equator and has just begun to rise. But, the banner pole on the chariot is directly aligned with the sixth hour on the summer solstice. The chariot has reached its highest position in the cosmos, and will begin a descent for the next 13,000 years. Could the writers of Matthew 17:9 be speaking of the advent of the second millennium since the child of on the eagle's wings sat upon the earth in 1 AD? In order for them to make such a prediction, or time the celestial event, requires that they possess superior knowledge of the precession of the equinoxes.
Step through the journey of Elijah's Chariot and see if you can read the stars to determine when cosmic consciousness will be raised on the chariot to its highest position. At the same moment, look for a man buried under a tree and symbolised in all the great myths of human culture. This is the journey of a life time. It will take only a few minutes to watch. It takes a full 26,000 years to write it in the stars. But the time it takes a human heart to comprehend its message cannot be predicted. The heart is a voice crying into the wilderness, until it shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and return the heart of the children to their fathers.
