Crossing the Leo-Cancer Boundary

In the March 2001 issue of Sky & Telescope (S&T) E. C. Krupp crossed the boundary between Leo and Cancer. Krupp writes a monthly column for the magazine titled "rambling through the skies," in which he tells anecdotal stories about the current views of the night sky. He has written several very good books on the subject of archaeoastronomy, and is the administrative head of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. As such, Dr. Krupp carries a significant amount of scholastic weight in his opinions, and most of them are quite well stated and presented. However, in the March 2001 S&T, he crossed the boundary between cosmic will and self will. In painting a story regarding the eastern horizon arrival of the constellation Leo, he chose to take another academic shot at the popular works of Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval. These authors have written nonfiction books which attempt to interpret the monumental constructions around the world. In particular, they have written a book together called the Mystery of the Sphinx. In addressing the pseudo-science of Bauval and Hancock, Dr. Krupp crossed that spiritual boundary between the domains of Leo and Cancer while following the two authors he was critical toward.

My own research agrees with Krupp in his dissenting view that the Sphinx could be the result of construction activities in 10,500 BC. However, there is a great tendency in academic circles to "defend the turf" from individuals who do not do the painstaking and unacknowledged work of maintaining the Hallowed Halls of Academia. Carl Sagan took a lot of gaff from academia because he made his version of the cosmos into best selling books. Just as Carl Sagan took some of our sacred science and made it accessible to the masses by manipulating the facts to sell his own spin, so have Bauval and Hancock, and also the esteemed Dr. Krupp. This is a world in which the truth in what we say is often of far less importance than the fame and wealth which comes from what we say. And, in a world that watches stars on television, it should not be surprising that cosmic truths are set aside for personal gain. That is what it means to cross the boundary between Leo and Cancer.

A person in the position of Dr. Krupp has a responsibility to his readers to give them the truth, as well as personal feelings. But, the temptation to point out the errors in another's presentation is a difficult compulsion to avoid. So, rather than go down that adversarial path, let us look at the substance of the cosmos and see if it can shed any light on the subject of the Mystery of the Sphinx. To do this we will simply attempt to place the monument called the Denderah zodiac, which was referenced in Dr. Krupp's article, The Sphinx Blinked, up against the stars in the sky. If the two images correspond to each other, then that correspondence is the truth, regardless of any individual feelings. That, by the way, is the essence of the scientific method.

DENDERAH ZODIAC

There have been several drawings of the Denderah zodiac published in books. The one which most closely represents a "tracing" of the stone, which is now at the Louvre Museum, is that published by Schwaller de Lubicz in his book Sacred Science (pg 178). The following is an improved and colored version of de Lubicz's zodiac.

The colors of the icons are to be associated with the apparent intent of the gnosis which is represented. To understand the gnosis, we first have to acknowledge that Egypt was established around 3100 BC in order to "Unite the Two Lands. The two lands are an expression regarding heaven above and heaven below. The boundary between these two lands is the plane of the Milky Way. This essay does not allow a complete development of the idea, but the voluminous material published at www.siloam.net is sufficient to reveal that the ancient world divided their cosmic perceptions into an upper and a lower world. These two worlds will be shown in the text below, but for now, we need to find the sky within the Denderah zodiac composition. Also, it should be understood that the research behind these associations was substantiated by using a bitmap of a professional photograph purchased from the Louvre museum as representing museum piece D38, so anyone, who chooses, can duplicate what is presented from the existing information, by purchasing a copy of the photo from the Louvre Museum. Also, the zodiac is on display at the Louvre Museum, and also, at the Rosicrucian Museum in San Jose, California. I am not associated with either of these organizations, though I have used their publications in my own research.

PERSIAN INFLUENCE

Krupp acknowledged Greek influences in the zodiac, and he knows that the true developers of our zodiac were the Mesopotamians, and in particular the Zoroastrians. But, the use of celestial knowledge to define paths to guide the living was common to all indigenous cultures around the world, which his book, Skywatchers, Shamans, and Kings demonstrated. In the Pacific Island cultures, star knowledge was mandatory, for they navigated the whole Pacific Ocean, while Europeans had regressed to debating whether the earth was round, or flat. Around 561 BC, Darius I, the King of Persia released the captives to return to Egypt and develop their own religions, again. The Bible tells us that the Jews were released from captivity, but we have to recognize that the Biblical stories were adversarial when it comes to Egypt. The wealth that would have been gained in the conquest of Palestine was miniscule compared to the wealth of Egypt.  The point is that the Egyptians brought back with them the Zoroastrian knowledge and began a process of merging it into their more ancient culture. But, the fact that the Egyptians knew of Leo, the lion, is quite evident. They had lions in prominent positions, and, as the present essay will demonstrate, the celestial lion defined for them, the Kingdom of Heaven above. However, Egypt saw "She who faces her Lord" as the top of heaven. The she is the constellation of Virgo, who was given many names, including Nut, Hathor, and Isis. Cancer was the Gateway of men through feelings, while Virgo was the mistress of heaven who could analyze those feelings. It is in this way that Isis came to know the name of Ra, and it was in passing through Leo that men lost that knowledge. Also, the information gained from the tomb of Tutankhamun demonstrates that the Pharaohs of Egypt were fully aware of the zodiac's place in the story of civilization. But, for now, consider the mottos of the twelve houses of the Zoroastrian zodiac, as they are known in astrology, today.

The sacred mottos of the zodiac characters are provided as a help in communicating with star cultures. The mottos define spirits within the constellations that can be derived from the relationships it has with adjacent constellations. The twelve names are presented in the order which Egypt had expressed throughout their 3,000 years domination of the world sciences. In the sacred books of Egypt, the sun rose every morning out of the mouth of a serpent and then from the horizon in the form of Khephera, the creator of the sun, and the essence of creativity. The location of Khephera on the ecliptic was the section of the heavens we call Cancer. Cancer is a representation of Khephera, and Cancer is also the "beginning" of the cycle around the heavens. Thus, the Egyptian scripture called Chapters of Coming Forth by Day, was focused on crossing the Leo-Cancer boundary. 

The entrance to the Denderah temple to Hathor has the zodiac constellations represented from Gemini to Aquarius going in, and from Capricorn to Leo coming out. Cancer is not on the entrance ceiling, because Cancer, as Khephera, is the whole of Upper Egypt, and represents the communication medium through which a life functions, feelings. By entering into the temple, a person could learn the meaning of feelings acquired in the outside world. The sequence is the solar path to wisdom and self realization: I Feel, I Think, I Have, I Am, I Believe, I Know, I Use, I See, I Desire, I Balance, I Analyze, I Will. The Egyptians identified many paths to wisdom in the heavens, but the zodiac was a special path, because along the zodiac, the vernal equinox journeyed as the ancient measure of time. The Denderah temple put individuals in touch with their inner feelings, and with the Cosmic Purpose. Today we use psychiatric services and churches to meet this need, but we substitute esoteric dogma and scholastic rationalizations for cosmic reality. The temple was a miniature cosmos which kept a sacred record of the science of the interpretation of feelings which could be found by experience of life. This is the essence of the scientific method before instruments were needed to sense the cosmos. The process is a form of art therapy in which the principle, "as above, so below," must be applied with exact precision. The proper application allowed the adept to orient the mind to the inner and outer realities in one harmonic and holistic union.

It is paramount that we acknowledge that the various icons on the Denderah zodiac are oriented in a counterclockwise direction. That direction is in opposition to the movement of the planets, which are, in reality, falling stars. For a culture that saw cosmic wisdom as the goal of life, to follow the planets would be a compulsive act of folly. They warned that  Asiatics would come down into Egypt and cause chaos throughout the land, in the Nefer-rohu Papyrus, which was set during the time of Snefru, before the Great Pyramid complex at Giza was begun. Thus, we have just identified the fundamental battle between the cultures from the valley of Aryans in Mesopotamia, and the cultures of most other indigenous peoples, specifically the Egyptians. 

The native cultures of the world have almost uniformly recognized the Milky Way as the place where creation is to be identified. However, the cultures which raised up the solar system as the place where creation was to be identified believed in the principle of enlightenment associated with Sol Invictus. This diversion is the essence of a  much maligned knowledge of the mythical Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness. Under the influence of the evolution of Persian Zoroastrianism into the Mithraic Mysteries after the liberating battles of Alexander the Great, the Romans conquered the world by destroying the Sons of Darkness, and placing astrology as the word of the gods. If the astrological symbols are used as a focus for the Denderah zodiac, its interpretation will be completely misconstrued. Time and history are the principle subjects of the Denderah zodiac. Through it, the temple architects proved beyond any reasonable doubt that the universe evolves in accordance with a divine cosmic plan, and rational enlightenment was just a small part of that order.

Although we live under the rational influence of the Roman Law Givers, the Sons of Darkness were never destroyed, they simply descended into covert habitual traditions, expecting to rise up from the dead at a future time, when a proper sacrifice was paid for the transgressions of arrogant rationalizations. The future time tradition is what the Sphinx is associated with, in its intentional design, and in the 4500 years it has waited. Neither the Sphinx, nor the Denderah zodiac, had the adoration of the sun as their purpose. Their purpose was to keep an awareness that the universal plan was put into effect at the moment of the first occasion, Sep Tepi. The cyclical arrival of Sep Tepi on the earth occurs, like Bauval and Hancock have stated, when the stars of Orion's belt are exactly reflected by the pyramids to the house of the northern king. When that alignment occurs, the earth will be a pillar of a cosmic kingdom, and the son of the establisher of the kingdom of Egypt will return to rule in peace and harmony, without rising and setting, like the temporal stars of the southern skies at Giza. But, what these rebel researchers failed to recognize is that the  Sphinx was looking toward the east to see Orion's belt before its face. When the Sphinx can see the eastern rise of Orion's belt, and the northern celestial pole perspective of the Giza complex is a perfect reflection of the stars in Orion's belt on the meridian, then the Sphinx will be in the time of the rising sun, and Osiris will begin to raise up the vernal sun from the duat, as it begins Coming Forth by Day.

This separation of wisdom in the dark cosmos, and wisdom in the solar system, is still with us in the idea of separation of church and state, which the Roman's mastered by eliminating the temples of the Sons of Darkness. What we have lost in the process is our everyday comprehension of the night skies, and the Big Picture metaphor for creation. It is in the night skies that we can see the whole of Egyptian culture, and the complete cosmic plan. Even Dr. Krupp could not honestly deny that the Egyptian culture was a celestial culture for which the holistic cosmos was the center of attention. So, now lets put the cosmic robe back on Sol Invictus, and see what the Romans have done to our ability to remember our origins.

The icons from the Denderah monument have been numbered for this essay. The discussion is about the Denderah zodiac image, and about views of the heavens. The reader must find the images corresponding to the words in this essay, or no communication will be effected. The essay has reference numbers and links to assist in that process. And, as will be shown, we should not assume that all constellations are placed in the appropriate position relative to the sky. The monument is telling a story about the journey of creation. A close look at Cancer inward from the lion of Leo reveals a clear misrepresentation of the zodiac constellations, yet it places the Leo-Cancer boundary at the highest points in the spiritual and material heavens. 

Keep in mind that the monument is an eight foot stone circle which was in the ceiling of an upstairs chapel dedicated to Osiris. This neter of Egypt represented human experience in the unconscious form. The elevation of Osiris to the Lord of All, when understood in experiential terms, means that the one who has the experience will be the master. That is the essence of all gnosis, or wisdom, based cultures, even our own. Though, like the Romans, we would deny wisdom if it were an expedient thing to do. For now, let yourself concede to the idea that the monument was constructed to pass on a message. Avoid the temptation to judge whether the message is correct or incorrect. Save judgment of the monument until sufficient time has been spent with it to reveal the central message its architects attempted to convey. If you do this properly, then you can cross the Leo-Cancer boundary with a full understanding of where in the cosmos your journey will lead. This is the gift of prophecy, and the temple to Hathor was designed to give birth to prophets. 

I have taken the liberty to provide synoptic mottos for many  icons based upon the sacred books of Egypt, and the complete message of the mandala of the Denderah zodiac, and most importantly, the stars in the heavens. The solar system is identified with the icons in the figure above. Draco is very important to the solar system because the northern axis of the plane of the earth's path, the ecliptic, passes through the constellation. The five planets visible to the naked eye are colored gray in the zodiac image. Astrologers recognize the positions of the planets on the composition as the locations of their "exaltation" in the rationalizations of tropical astrology. And the correctness of this correspondence has overshadowed the construction of the monument. It implies that the zodiac is in agreement with astrology, and places a large shadow over the attempt to play down the astrology of Persia in favor of the cosmology of Egypt. The fundamentally important relationship between Zoroastrian-Roman astrology and Egyptian-Grecian cosmology is that astrology is a prodigal child of cosmology. The astrologers developed their pseudo-science by stripping away much of the sacred science of cosmology in an attempt to retain autonomy from the cosmos, and to dictate, rather than prophecy the future. This difference is a thin line to the uninitiated, but to the initiated, it is the difference between day and night, between external cosmic awareness, and inward self awareness. Astrology is, at best, a short ladder set up in a high cathedral. A neophyte cannot reach the highest heavens from the astrological ladder, and must come back down to earth in order to rise above its limitations.

Lets begin by constructing the clock mechanism in the Denderah zodiac. If we were to draw lines extending from the staffs of the five planetary icons, we would find that they intersect at two locations shown in the adjacent image. One location is at the breast of  Draco-Tauret (13), the goddess of material existence (s). This would necessarily be the axis of the ecliptic (EP) on the monument. Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter define the axis of the ecliptic at Tauret's breast. She is the mother of the solar system. 

The other intersection point is located between Cancer and the "ox leg." Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter define the second intersection point, and it represents the celestial axis (CP) of the earth (e). The staff of Jupiter, behind the female in Gemini, strikes a line that passes through both intersection points, as well as the center of the composition on the back front foot of the jackal (c), the disk on the shoulders of the man of enlightenment, and the eye of the Horus hawk at the top right center of the monument. Jupiter was known as the ruler of the Solar system, and it is clear that Jupiter plays a ruling role in the Denderah monument. 

While considering the eye of the Horus hawk outside of Sagittarius (8), notice the tail of de Lubicz's arrow pointing north across the monument to the arrow head on the bottom center left position of the complete zodiac. This arrow represents the original north direction for the monument when it was installed in the temple. If we look closely at the top right icons, there is a female figure walking before a small ram with an arrow behind her. The arrow is a marker which was inscribed by the architects to point in the true north direction. The arrow is shown in the figure here, for reference. The fact that the axis of the north arrow runs precisely through the head and disk on the small ram is a very important point in the whole mandala. It says that the small ram has been oriented true north. In other words, the small ram is not disoriented, any more. Krupp made the point that the Giza complex had a precise cardinal orientation, i.e., north, south, east, west. That same message is reflected in Denderah. Why was the ram disoriented? We will answer that question in a moment.

First, we must begin to resolve Krupp's confusion regarding the ox leg and the small ram on it. These are not constellations, as Dr. Krupp presents. The ox leg represents a meat offering. It is attached to the small ram as a way of identifying the purpose of the small ram, and the composition as a whole. The choice of an ox leg honors the past Age of Taurus. The Ptolemaic Egyptians knew full well that the end times for the Age of Aries were at hand. Thus, the temple was constructed to bring in the New Age of Pisces, a proper conclusion for the Age of Aries, and a memory of the Age of Taurus. The Age of Aries had seen great strife, tyranny, and during the final 300 years, the Universal Brotherhood of Man movement by the Hellenists, which was established by Alexander the Great. The temple was dedicated to Motherhood, and specifically to Alexander's Mother, Olympia, and her son Alexander. But, most of all it was dedicated to the history of the Universal Brotherhood of Man, which had been the central theme of Egypt from the beginning of the Age of Aries. The ox leg with the small ram attached is acknowledging the sacrifice of the ram of Aries. 

The three icons between the ox leg and the Utchat on the east line of Pisces could be arranged to associate numerically with the constellation Triangulum, and metaphorically with the three spirits represented by the icons. However, Egypt had a long history of the use of Trinitarian spirits in their theology and cosmology. So, the idea which Dr. Krupp has offered regarding the ox leg and the small ram as constellations clearly indicates that he has no idea why the Egyptians built the temple at Denderah. This lack of spiritual understanding is a direct result of our modern rationalizing sciences, and there is very little in the experience of these sciences that would have helped him to understand ancient temple iconography. He probably did not offer the ox leg as a constellation, but received the idea from other individuals with similar background training. We will return to this consideration later.

For now, we must consider the sun and the moon. The monument does not show an anthropomorphic icon of the moon within the central composition, but the man of enlightenment (22) could contain either image. It is located precisely at the winter solstice for the year, since it is in line with the ecliptic and celestial axis away from the celestial axis. This moment in the year represents a resurrected sun.  Around the outside ring of fire of the main disk, are several anthropomorphic images with disks containing a uraeus. In general, this is inspired enlightenment, where as a plane disk is reflected enlightenment.  A solar image is generally shown with a uraeus, since the uraeus is the Eye of Ra. Within the composition, there are four objects which could very well be associated with the sun and the moon. First, examine the icon for Pisces (5). There are two circles at Pisces. One at each fish. The more central fish has the image of an Utchat attached. The Utchat is the Egyptian symbol for cosmic unity. As such, it represents a spiritual ideal with the disk of the sun around it. Thus, this is the "tabernacle of the sun." It is identifying the location of the vernal equinox at the east line in Pisces. In other words, this Eye of Ra marks the perception of reality at the time the vernal equinox sat squarely on the east line of Pisces. More on this time indicator will be given later, because its importance cannot be over emphasized.

 The other fish of Pisces has a circle with a woman holding something in her hand. The object in her hand is not clear enough to definitely define on the monument. But if we look at the icon for the Pleiades and Lepus (39), we can see that Lepus is drawn as a boar. The boar is a symbol the Greeks used to indicate woman's intuition; probably because boars can find succulent roots by a sense which humans cannot, and intuition often reveals truth that rational analysis cannot identify, e.g., Krupp's failing to comprehend Bauval's vision of the heavens on the Giza plateau. At any rate, the circle with the woman at Pisces can be associated with physical senses, feelings, and intuitive processes. This is the daughter of darkness, who knows the name of Ra without rational experiences.

A third circle within the composition is on the balance at Libra (10). Within this circle is a youth sucking his finger. This youth is on trial. The outcome of the trial will be a journey to either the jackal, or the prince's throne, for these icons are above the circle of judgment. The jackal (14) is the icon at the very center of the composition. It is a symbol for Anubis, the guard to the entrance of the cosmic womb, and our constellation Lupus. The jackal represents the material substance of the universe. And since the composition is a spiral path radiating outward, this outcome of the trial represents a return to the material beginning. The journey from Libra to Lupus is made in the womb of Tauret.

The prince's throne outcome of the trial is shown on the back of the Leo icon (12). And here, is the most important lunar circle on the composition. The image of the crab of Cancer (1) is very nearly a circle. We also know that astrologers identify children born while the sun is in the astrological house of Cancer as "Moon Children." Thus, if the judgment at Libra finds in favor of the adolescent thumb sucker, the youth will be rewarded with a ride in the Kingdom of Heaven, and a chance to look the Creator, Khephera, in the face. Note also, that the image of Cancer - Khephera - Moon is drawn with radiating legs. Does this represent Khephera as the morning sun, as well? Could well be, for that is the story of creation according to Ancient Egypt. As such, the sun would be joined with the son in the house of the Kingdom of Heaven, Leo, across the boundary between Leo and Cancer. It says, "Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven." In more modern jargon we might say, "Get a feel for the cosmos."  

The morning sun idea can be proven, for this is an image of a man child on a lion looking directly east  into the face of the symbol of the Creator, precisely like the man's face on the Great Sphinx, Coincidence, not hardly, for the prince on his throne and the crab of Cancer are purposely arranged to demonstrate this alignment. The prince is cocked relative to the lion's back, and Cancer belongs in the face of the lion. More importantly, it is the man, not the lion that is perfectly aligned with the rising horizon in the east. The metaphor is clear; a child who acquires good judgment will see future horizons rising while in the Kingdom of Heaven. In other words, this is the moment when the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 

If we accept that the Sphinx is the constellation Leo, then what is before the face of Leo is the important metaphor for what is before the face of the Sphinx. The insert star chart of the asterisms shows that the constellation Cancer is "in the face" of Leo. This confirms that the Sphinx is a representation of the constellation Leo. But, in case a skeptic should think to ask why Leo's face is not in the face of Cancer, we need only go to the full zodiac to realize that Leo is facing the hawk of Horus, and Horus is the symbol of truth. In which case, the great metaphorical wisdom of the Egyptians comes through even more precisely after 2500 years, than it did when the Sphinx was carved. This discussion puts to bed the question of whether the Egyptians knew the constellation Leo at the time the Great Sphinx was carved. It also destroys completely the interpretation of the metaphor of Leo representing Sep Tepi in 10,500 B.C., and the unorthodox date of the Sphinx. So, it is a split decision for Krupp and his chosen adversaries, and a unanimous decision in favor of the cosmic wisdom of the ancients. Of course the ancients had an advantage over the moderns. They knew what they were doing. Modern Western Culture does not know what the ancients were attempting to do, because the philosophic basis for Western Culture is rational, not empirical, nor intuitive, when it comes to spiritual existence. 

A more appropriate metaphor for raising children to become honorable and responsible members of a cosmically conscious culture has never been found. But, of course we are describing a gnosis story inscribed on a temple of Egypt. It should not be a surprise that we find this result, for Egypt was founded with the intent of Uniting the Two Lands. It just so happens that gnosticism was, and still is, a process whereby a neophyte (28) could earn the privilege of speaking to the Creator (12-1), when the neophyte comprehends the mysteries of Thoth. So, what we have just done is go from Leo through Cancer, around the zodiac, and back to Leo to look into the Creator's Face. That is the Egyptian story of life. That is why Cancer appears to be out of place. The placement represents the more important metaphor, that the mind must be oriented to the Creator, and the body must be oriented to truth. This journey was taken in the direction of the measure of time, which we call the precession of the equinoxes, and the Egyptians called the journey of the Eye of Ra (20).

The following images present details of the journey, and the discussion presents a few of their metaphors.

The image above shows a  neophyte under the tutelage of a lioness learning to be "literate" by writing the spoken messages of the lioness, Sekhmet, who was the Teacher of Righteousness in Ancient Egypt. The west half cycle of the monument from Scorpio (9) to Gemini (2) shows events leading to the creation of an independent youth, symbolized as Orion (35). At the end of this segment, Hathor (33), the female Taurus, rests on her laurels on a  sacred barque (argo Navis). This corresponds to graduation from the school of nurturing, which is the mother's business.

The commencement at graduation represents one of the most traumatic events in human life, the moment of truth (34). We are filled with the knowledge and inspiration from our mentors in academia, and we are sent out like cocky men (35) on a journey to save the cosmos. Our journey is supported by the compressed wisdom (36) we received during our educational initiation, and we are blind to the pitfalls in reality. The pitfalls must be avoided in an academic environment, so that the neophyte will be motivated to learn. That is why academicians are placed upon pedestals in ivory towers. 

One of our first acts, when we go into the "real world," is to put down our emotions and strive to do the rationally correct thing. This is the path defined by Selket's arrow (32), which must pass over Mother Earth as Hathor,  through the crown of Horus (34) which is cosmic truth, through the crown of Orion (35) which is Osiris the cocky man and establisher of the kingdom of Egypt, and arrive at the disk on the head of the stiff necked ram (40), as emotions, intuition, and creativity are suppressed. Selket is the Egyptian goddess of motivation, and she is used on the monument to identify the ideals of a princess inspiring her prince, the Cocky Man. The spirit shadow of Selket is that she rests on her laurels waiting for someone else to do her cosmic bidding. This is why the mother, as a symbol of responsibility, came to be placed in obeisance to rigid rationality. The boar is also a symbol for Seth, the neter for self rationalization, and it tells us that the maiden was lost in her emotional dreams of self worth. Cinderella did not want to work any more. A cocky man does what "feels good," and responsibility is not a "feel good" emotion, so the mother's dream of kingdom come is abandoned.

The stiff necked ram has the horns of Khnum, which is to say, the power of rational intent. Ahead of this ram is an altar with four uraeus serpents upon it. These four subliminal beings represent the four elements of the ancient metaphysics called earth, water, air, and fire, and standing for material, physical, mental, and spiritual creation. The objective of suppressing the subliminal elements, is to raise the child to the top of the world. That is shown by the child with a flail (43), signifying mastery of the physical element, sitting upon the lotus (42). The lotus is the constellation Coma Berenices. In Egypt, this constellation was also known as the wig of Hathor, which topped the pillars at the entrance to the temple at Denderah, from which the zodiac monument has been removed. The constellation is also represented as a sprig of wheat, called an ear of corn, in the up raised hand of Virgo. 

The child is then brought before the tyrant's throne (44) to be taught the father's business. After learning the father's business, the child finds that a four headed ram sits upon an altar where a "law giver" stands. In other words, the subliminal has been raised to the supraliminal, and a rational person has been formed. This is, after all, a father's business. And it is what the neter Khnum stood for in Ancient Egypt, for he fashioned men on his potter's wheel.

What happens next is fairly obvious. The youth becomes sophomoric and with the belief gained in the journey past the valley of death in Pisces (5), the youth becomes a "know it all," as the "I Believe" is transformed into the "I Know." The basic aspect which is being drawn out is that rational creation is satisfied by domination of emotions (46 & 47). We cannot apply ourselves rationally, if we are not bound by our own definitions and dogma. This is the threat behind all paradigms. A paradigm which can be learned and then pushed into the subliminal regions of the mind will dominate the person to follow compulsively what it has been taught. The Egyptian goal was not domination and bondage. The goal comes after the journey through the tyrant's realm (44) when proper judgment is rewarded.

After breaking the bondage (47) to salvation in Aquarius (6), the individual is confronted by Thoth (48). Note that Aquarius holds the same vials that the mother holds under Leo. She withheld her affection for the sake of kingdom come, and he provided compassionate salvation through bondage to rational truth. Thoth is the neter of recorded wisdom in Ancient Egypt. In other words, delayed satisfaction during short term tyranny leads to cosmic accomplishments. The great rational being, signified by the large strutting ram (46), is brought down in size buy the wisdom of Thoth, and becomes a Humble Ram (48). Beyond the Humble Ram is the wife of Thoth, Seshat (48). She is to Thoth, what an artist's dream is to a painting. Seshat is conception. Thoth is the written message, while Seshat is the inspiration which Thoth places in writing. Note that the Thoth icon has a bird's head (Ibis), and the Seshat icon has a serpent's head (48); rational and intuitive wisdom. Thus, after the humbling experience, the subliminal guide (intuition) leads the rational consciousness to create memories. This is the unorthodoxy which Krupp denies, and Bauval-Hancock employ with reduced restraints. When fettered by rational dogma, this is the bondage of Andromeda. When released with out reason, this is Pandora's box.

Beyond the Seshat icon is a youthful man with a disk upon his head. This is a union of enlightenment and maleness. Or, if you will, it represents rational enlightenment. This Son of Light received understanding from the daughter of darkness, and converted subliminal emotion into a rational recording, with full awareness of being. The enlightenment is of the reflective form essential to reincarnation of truth. This is the goal of the nurturing schools of all cultures. After completing the nurturing schools of Hathor, and trials in the apprenticeships of the father's business, the enlightened one is transformed into a knowledgeable man who wears the atef crown of rational understanding and walks behind the man with a bare head of a serpent (50). This means that an educated man learns how to use intuition and hunches to achieve life's journey. Regardless of the greatness of any academic institution, even Dr. Krupp's Griffith Observatory, we are only capable to move forward in our learning, if we follow our own instincts. Those instincts are given to us by the physical body and the passing on of the genes from one generation to the next. This is the ka of Osiris. This process is the beginning of the whole cycle represented by the baboon of Thoth, and the man Osiris at the altar of animal instincts (51). Here is where the journey of gnosis begins again, for we will always be neophytes in the future.

The goal of this gnosis is quite simple. Take a child of the flesh and convert it into a Divine Spirit capable of communicating with itself and the Cosmos. The story of the Denderah zodiac is an example of how celestial images can come down from the heavens, enter into a neophyte child, and raise that child up to become a king. It is one example, and most every native culture has had similar examples. In our modern culture, we have so suppressed the intuitive approach to knowledge, that we cannot recognize that our mundane sciences, just like astrology, are spin off rationalizations of the ancient sacred sciences which were intuitive, and empirical. We can thank Alexander's mother, Olympias (Myrtale), for having the spirit wisdom of Egypt when she gave birth to and raised Alexander. According to legends provided by Peter Green in Alexander of Macedon, 356-32- B.C., Olympias was impregnated by Zeus-Ammon as a serpent. It was less than three decades later that Alexander made the long trek from Memphis to Siwah to be told by the oracle that he, Alexander, was the Son of Amun. This made him the first Pharaoh of Egypt of Greek cultural upbringing. The legends behind Alexander's mother include that she slept with sacred serpents in her bed, quite resembling the position of Virgo and Leo over Hydra (pgs 35-36, 249). Any detailed knowledge of the life of Alexander the Great reveals that his legends and the Denderah zodiac have more in common than can be expected by chance. He was raised using the system indicated, and his success inspired nations to attempt to duplicate the same path in their children. Had this path not been employed, Western Civilization would not be what it is today. This one man's accomplishments can be assigned the destiny of the whole of Western Civilization. So, it is not surprising that the Denderah zodiac would tell Alexander's story, and the story of Osiris, Isis, and Horus, simultaneously.

CELESTIAL IMAGES

This quick journey around the Denderah monument cannot be expected to tell its whole story. But, it is never the objective to tell the whole story to any student. The objective is to give the student the "plow of truth," and set the student on a path toward continuous self education. The great academic institutions of the modern world still have that goal. I myself have stood before the great Foucault Pendulum hanging under the main rotunda mural showing Atlas straddling the Big Dipper holding up the twelve astrological signs of the zodiac at the entrance to the Griffith Observatory. I marveled that the pendulum could be used to tell the days of the solar year, and the mural could be used to tell the solar years of the precessional year. The Denderah zodiac is a precessional zodiac clock in its own right, to show a history of time, and prophecy future times. The period of the clocks is the key information on the pendulum and the zodiac compositions. The subjects of the clock are the "signs of the times."

Walking between Libra and the center of the composition above Saturn's staff, Tauret holds an object in her hand which represents an architect's construction triangle. Saturn marks the day of the last judgment, and Tauret carries the child of poor judgment to a New Age. The message in her triangle of construction is, "find this angle, for here is wisdom, it is the mark of a man, and the mark of a beast (38), and its number is 666  years." The 666 years can be derived from the monument and the cosmos, but the choice of the reference angle clearly indicates an attempt to draw attention to the number later memorialized in Revelation 13:18. Mercury (23), which is the planet of wisdom,  has a staff which points directly to the hands of the beast (38). The beast is the Egyptian neter, Bastet. She stands for sensibility, while the man behind her stands for rationality. The message on the Denderah zodiac clarifies the words of Rev. 13:18 by saying that wisdom comes to a man who can come to his senses. Note that the man stands on the altar of subliminal consciousness in the monument (41), and the beast stands on the head of the child on "top of the world" (42 & 43) in the monument. Both are under Aries (4), the "I Am." The angle between the hands on the scepters of the man and the beast (38) with an apex at the center of the composition (c) at the jackal's back front paw (14) is an exact proportion to 360 degrees as 666 years was to the Platonic year of the precession at the time the vernal sun crossed the east line at Pisces (Utchat in 5). Thus, the angle is given at the beginning of the journey by Tauret, and repeated at the end of the journey when the neophyte becomes adept at following the senses to reach the destination of a New Age, where the Eye of Ra sees all. Also, the center of the composition was placed on the back front foot of the jackal. This is symbolic of the star Regulus in Leo, and Leo is the goal of the journey toward gnosis of kingdom come. Twice the architects placed a symbol of the end at the beginning of the journey, to help us realize their subjective intent from the scientific composition. If the neophyte can follow the thread through the labyrinth leading to the bull of Taurus, then the neophyte will be adept at balancing the objective senses with the subjective rationalizations. This is far more profound than the artistic expression in the rotunda of Griffith's observatory, and Dr. Krupp should have realized what the Denderah represented from his own daily experience. But, it appears that his observations are the swinging metronome of a Foucault Pendulum, which can measure time, but has no idea what the subjective meaning of time could be.

The mural in the chapel to Osiris at Denderah is a clock in precisely the same way that the mural and the Foucault Pendulum are in the rotunda of the Griffith Observatory. Both temples are dedicated to the science of the stars, it is just that Krupp's temple has taken the subject of creation out of the modern temple's presentation. That is precisely what the Denderah zodiac implied would happen during the New Age.

What was the New Age? It was the Age of Pisces. The Age of Aries cannot continue after the vernal equinox passes the asterism of the east line of Pisces.  In his mistaken presentation in the March 2001 S&T, Dr. Krupp identified the ox leg with a small lion (15). But a close examination of the monument would have informed him that the creature on the ox leg is not a lion, it is a ram. The now "accepted interpretation" of the ox leg as the asterism of the Big Dipper is false, as well, and will be discussed in greater detail below. The thin folded legs under the body of the icon are those of a ram, and the icon is drawn in the same attitude as Aries. Thus, the first indication of time on the monument is a dead bovine and a ram, at the moment of the death of the ram. The first death was already nearly two thousand years old at the time of the monument's design, for the angel of death had passed over Taurus in the 18th century B.C. The moment of the second death was defined by the solstice axis of the monument which is aligned with the staff in Jupiter's hand (26). The death coincides with 30 AD and the deification of Caesar Augustus, the usurping emperor who killed the last heir to the pharaoh's throne in Egypt, Caesarian, the son of Cleopatra and Julius Caesar. The second death represented at the ox leg (15) identifies the impending death of Aries, and the Dawn of Pisces. The ox leg does not signify the Big Dipper, and that idea must die, as well. 

Before continuing with the analysis of the ox leg related icons, we have to make amends for the loss of the Big Dipper. It would be totally unacceptable to believe that the Egyptians did not know of the Big Dipper. It has been a very important asterism for millions of years. In his fabulously illustrated book The Glorious Constellations, Giuseppe Maria Sesti discussed a study from the August 1975 Scientific American, titled "The Stellar Orientation System of a Migratory Bird," in which birds were proven to recognize the northern constellations, with clear references to the Big Dipper. Sesti also informs us that the Big Dipper was known to Euro-Asiatic countries as the Heavenly Plow. And, it is to the subjective plow that the Denderah zodiac concedes. The Little Dipper is in the womb of Draco, or Tauret. On the zodiac, the plow under the feet of the jackal of Lupus (14) is perfectly positioned for the Little Dipper. The ox leg interpretation is clearly inappropriate for the Big Dipper, because the asterism is not located toward Auriga and Taurus from the Little Dipper, as the ox leg is shown on the zodiac, but toward Coma Berenices and Virgo. If we look closer, we will find a larger plow in the hands of the male bovine outside Libra and Virgo in the proper angular position for Bootes. The plow of the Big Dipper was supposedly pulled by oxen. On the Denderah zodiac, it is clear that the labor of providing for the cosmos is signified by the male bovine with the plow standing after the Teacher of Righteousness, whom we will get to latter. This bovine man is none other than Atlas, himself.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As further proof that the bovine man holding the plow represents the asterisms of Bootes and the Big Dipper, consider the adjacent composite sketch of the heavens and one of the most ancient of Egyptian artifacts, the Narmer palette. The palette of Narmer shows the "Scorpion King," as he is called, holding a plow walking upon tilled soil with a scorpion and a flower before his face, and a subject placing a mat before his feet. The flower has seven petals, and is probably an early reference to the goddess of conception, Seshat, the creative consort of Thoth. But the inference of the scorpion and the plow is that this man sees the desire for the top of the world before him, which is the flower of heaven on the axis of the galaxy. This is the proverbial "desire of all nations." If we examine the associated sky chart, we can see that Bootes is located with his hand reaching toward the plow. The location of his upper hand is almost precisely the midpoint between the top of the galaxy, shown as a circle in the Potter's Field, and the top of the ecliptic pole at Draco-Tauret. This is the position Atlas is shown on the rotunda mural of the Griffith Observatory. If the objective of the Denderah zodiac had been a mundane scientific sky chart, then the Bootes-Big Dipper icon would have belonged between the little plow and Virgo and Libra, but not at the position of the "ox leg." However, the composition is a religious expression about creation, so the architects moved the Bootes-Big Dipper icon out of the way on the proper angle to make room for the meat offering of the ram. 

The spirit of this action is duplicated in Luke 4:6-9. "And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." The word devil has a hidden meaning which carries the spirit, lived, or recognition. Seth is the spirit of recognition, or of recall of what has been lived. The meat offering of the ram at the ox leg is followed by the Horus hawk, a baboon and a goat like creature behind the hawk and baboon. The Hawk is Horus anticipating the future. The baboon is the body. The goat like creature is the Seth animal. The combined image says the same thing as Luke 4:6-9, and it also says it from the "top of the world," i.e., the northern ecliptic pole. On the other hand the recognition of Seth is that of having a "monkey on his back." The rational mind is confounded by the dictates of the body. In other words, we desire future consciousness for the sake of the physical being, but we are hindered by our limited experiences, which usurp the decision processes. When those experiences dictate the future, the future is lost, and the "lived" must get behind the future consciousness. The memory of the efforts of the past are felt as a monkey on the back of the individual who has lost the dream of tomorrow. The ox leg, hawk, baboon, and goat, are central icons, and the central thought of the Denderah composition which will be revisited several times in this essay.

As an interim summary of the judgment scene, we can put together the central icons, and the icons at Leo. The judgment related icons can now be paraphrased by the words of Luke 9:62, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." The small ram is shown in the same posture as Aries, looking toward the future, but with the body at rest in the direction of the past. This is symbolic of rational academic pursuits. The mind follows the path toward truth, but the body does not have the same commitment. Since the sacred name of Aries is "I Am," it signifies that learning ceases when self identity is fulfilled. The meat offering indicates that the recalcitrant physical attitude must be turned around. Commitment to the search for truth cannot end when one is self satisfied, because time marches on, and whatever identity one has at any given instant will change with time. For "truth's" sake the message is again paraphrased in Matt 16:25, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." The quest for truth is an eternal quest which is carried on during life and in the hereafter, through the generations to come. That wisdom is the fundamental secret of Egypt, regardless of what political scheme was in power. Egypt always adapted to match the "signs of the times." That is why Egypt was the "Teacher of Righteousness" for the whole of Western Culture. When the physical body of the Aries spirit is turned around, through physical sacrifice, it learns the habitual behaviors of subliminal and supraliminal truth consciousness. With truth seeking physical habits, the fight against unconscious compulsive behaviors ceases, and an inner peace comes to the mind and soul. The mind can then delegate decisions to the body that give the rational conscious sufficient time to be creation conscious. Creation consciousness reveals the order and the intent in the cosmos. And, though the individual is still mortal, it has access to the immortal. With awareness of the timeless principles, judgments can be made most effectively, and a mortal acts with the power of the Immortal.

Adherence to the timeless principles of the cosmos is apparent throughout the span of Egyptian history, and that is why the Egyptologists can say that the Egyptian religion was unchanged from it foundation until its final hour. Without going into the details, we could easily see that the "Scorpion King" is coming into the fertile delta of the Nile and is being welcomed with a mat to walk upon. The Denderah zodiac illustrates an east west axis that is marked by hieroglyphs which are approximately 46 +/- 1 degrees off the true east west axis of the composition. Assuming a precessional rate of 26,000 years per 360 degrees, we arrive at a numerical date of -3322 plus or minus 72 years, which is within the margin Egyptologists claim for the founding of Egypt. At that time, the north pole was near Thuban in Draco and Mizar in the middle of the handle of the Big Dipper sat at the top of the world on the summer solstice. But, if we use the date of 561 BC, which corresponds to the true north axis, the date we arrive at is 3883 B.C. In this period, the north pole would have been located close to the outstretched hand of Bootes, and the summer solstice would have been aligned with the boundary between Virgo and Leo. That would be the time when the summer solstice entered into the Kingdom of Heaven in the past, or as de Lubicz says, the original east and west orientation. It is not inconceivable that both metaphors were intended, however, it is certain that the original east and west hieroglyphs are "signs of the original times." It is also certain that the composition is intended to illustrate how to read the "signs of the times," just like the Foucault Pendulum at Griffith Observatory is intended to illustrate the mechanics of time measurements as correlations between natural phenomena.

The Narmer palette is a "sign of the times" which would have just preceded the organization of Egypt. The body of the "Scorpion King" clearly shows that time is marching on, for the plow is held as a pointer. Thus, time is moving from the man of Bootes toward the plow of the Big Dipper. But, this reflection back to the origins of Ancient Egypt also gives us a metaphor for the two plows on the Denderah zodiac, and in the cosmos. These are the plows of truth, and a neophyte must learn to use these plows to reach kingdom come. These "signs" measure time. It is at Bootes and Virgo that Osiris and Isis establish the kingdom of Egypt, precisely as shown in the icons of the Denderah zodiac. The central tradition of Egypt did not change from the very founding of the culture. It could not change, because it was based upon a measure of time that was on the order of 26,000 years, even if the period had not been worked out to a numerical value.

The design date for the monument can be dated by determining the time for the north celestial arrow line through Jupiter's head and the star on Hathor's head. It is 561 BC, when Darius I (the Great) released the Egyptians to return to their home lands. In order to prove that point, you have to calculate the angular position. But, it is easy to estimate, by recognizing that it was before the summer solstice reached Gemini. The details of the precise calculations are available at www.siloam.net in the essay titled the Book of Q. In case you are not familiar with Biblical Archaeology, the Book of Q has been postulated as the source book for the Gospels. Q stands for quelle, which is German for source. Is the Denderah zodiac the source book, or has the Denderah zodiac taken its information from the same source as the Gospels? The source for the Denderah zodiac stories is the history of Western Civilization before the Roman Empire replaced the Roman Republic, and it is the story of time as told by the stars, a celestial Foucault Pendulum. These are the true source materials called the Book of Q, and the others are just attempts to record the visions which are, in the fables of the ancients, the Word of God. 

It is a sad statement on our modern culture when "experts" on stars and archaeoastronomy cannot discern that the "fables of the ancients" are historical records of the subject of the heavens, as told by our ancestors. The fact that the length of precession was known to Darius I, is recorded in Daniel 9:1-3. "In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;  In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.  And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes" Note the words, "set my face unto the Lord God" for these exact words were repeated in the image of the prince enthroned before the face of Khephera as the crab symbol of Cancer, which I presented earlier.

The mistaken idea that the image on the back of the ox leg is a lion further destroys the story of the Denderah zodiac. We have to look very closely at the surrounding images to reveal the original intent, and prove that the image is a ram. Dr. Krupp is a man of integrity and substantial recognition, so correcting his position is not to be taken too lightly. More importantly, there is a significant belief in the academic world that the ox leg represents the Big Dipper, which has been shown to be an incorrect understanding. These paradigms are offspring of the critical pillars of modern science that require the stars to be objective and not subjective. This is the separation of "why and how" which has split the "sacred sciences" away from the "objective sciences." Today we have religion and science. Before the Roman Empire, we had the wisdom which comes with the battle between Horus and Seth, which are metaphors for conscious cognition and conscious recognition. The names have been change many times. In Luke 4:6-9, the adversaries are Jesus and Satan, but in the Chapters of Coming Forth by Day inscribed on the walls of the pyramids of the fourth and fifth Dynasties, they were Horus and Seth. The Septuagint Bible was supposedly completed by 72 Rabbis in 72 days under the direction of Ptolemy II (285-246 B.C.), who became Pharaoh just 47 years after Alexander the Great became the Son of Amun. The message is so obvious. And, it is beyond wonder that our modern archaeologists, religious leaders,  cosmologists, and archaeoastronomers have not realized what was happening during the Hellenistic Age. The Western World was reestablishing the reign of Ancient Egypt, and the cosmological goal it had established over three millennia earlier, the Uniting of the Two Lands. The Romans killed that idea, but the advocates of the idea became martyrs to the lost truth. In so doing, they saw events on earth reflected directly from events in the heavens, and the cultural shock was too much for Western Civilization to handle. They had predicted their own demise and resurrection.

Note the tails on Aries, the baboon, the ear of the goat at the ox leg, the staff of the beast, Bastet, and the east line of Pisces. De Lubicz mistakenly connected these in his tracing. However, the mistake was not without merit. These images are all drawn with the specific intent of connecting them to the east line of Pisces which contains the Eye of Ra. That location is a very unique position in the heavens. It is a place where an asterism crosses the apparent path of the sun at nearly a right angle. As such, it is a precise measure of a precessional moment, and therefore, time. The vernal equinox, which is the Tabernacle of the Sun, crossed the east line of Pisces in 30 AD. Thus, the reference date for the composition is 30 AD, the very year Caesar Augustus was deified by the Romans, and Christ was crucified in the Gospels. A more momentous occasion in Western Culture does not exist, for our calendars are based upon that celestial alignment. Anyone who would chose a different date, would not be able to find a correlation which could be revisited in the future millennia. This is a very important point, and it is essential to recognize that any calendar which does not have an accurate celestial reference, will be subject to numerical misinterpretations. In the two thousand years since the reference date was chosen, we have forgotten that it ever existed. More importantly, we have forgotten that the skies opened up after Alexander the Great, and predicted the most incredible event of Western Civilization, the assumption to the throne of the world by a usurper who had no divine right to the regal position. That usurper was Caesar Augustus, and his legacy was the Roman tyranny for over 300 years. But, it was not called a tyranny, it was called Pax Romana. 

Our forgetfulness has been compensated by dogmatic adherence to traditions established in stone by Ptolemaic Egypt and made public in the Gnostic Church dogma, before the modern churches were formed. The Nag Hammadi scrolls, which are the Gnostic scrolls, were found just twenty miles from the Denderah temple in 1945, only 56 years ago. A few years latter, the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered, and they got the bulk of the World's attention, while the gnostic scrolls suffered the same fate as the priests who prepared them; rejection and denial. 

Now that we know the synchronizing source information, we can reconstruct many events in cultural and Biblical history. That was an essential purpose for the great expense of constructing a temple, in the first place. Egypt was fully aware of the battle between the mother's son and the father's son. The rational mind of the "father's son" cannot accept what it does not create. The intuitive mind of the "mother's son" submits to all dreams of future kingdoms. Egypt had been in existence long enough to know that only monumental record keeping can retain esoteric information about any culture from being destroyed by the cyclical dominance of rational and intuitive perceptions. By virtue of their great monuments, Egypt sustained the working order of their culture longer than any other culture on record. After the gnosis was converted to the celestial story in the Gospels, the memory was preserved by  the scriptural monuments of religious tradition. Within the Gospels, we can trace the initiating date of the Christian calendar to approximately 30 AD, without even knowing that it was simultaneously a celestial alignment. The presentation of the Star of Bethlehem story in Matthew 2:1-10 carries the idea of synchronizing the time of Christianity to the stars when the celestial son, Antinous, came down to earth between 1 BC and 1 AD. 

The gospel does in words, what the Denderah zodiac had done in monumental architecture. The words had to be written so that an initiate could understand them, but the adversarial rulers, the Romans, would not. If the celestial correlations had not been expressed covertly, then the Mithrasians, who were members of another Alexander inspired religion with Persian leanings, would have recognized the celestial renderings. The Mithrasian cult was a star cult which also took the Zoroastrian wisdom and applied it without reference to the holistic cloak of stars in the cosmos. This cult had the conquest and tyrannical bent of a single godhead who overcame the Cosmic Bull, Perseus. That Cosmic Bull was Osiris, and the legendary lands of Egypt. The battle between Egypt and Persia has gone on for at least 6,000 years. Today, the adversaries are the Christian and the Muslim followers, each over a billion strong. 

The Jews are caught in the middle, but not without culpability, for their genesis is the first Biblical tradition which puts down the traditions of Egypt. In ancient times, the Jews were equated to lepers because their head strong tendencies were insensitive to their own self destruction. Egypt provided concurrent Hebrew culture with its cosmic strength, but the Hebrews trace their origins back to Persia, their own captors. The Denderah zodiac, and the fact that the Septuagint was published by Ptolemy II, tells us that the salvation of Ancient Egypt was dependent upon the salvation of the Wandering Jews. Thus, before the battle between Horus and Seth can be brought back to the collective conscious mind of the West, the modern sons of Seth will have to be brought into the Judgment Hall before Osiris. This Judgment Day is the central theme of the Denderah zodiac. So, it is apparent that the effect of the Hellenistic quest for the Brotherhood of Man has gone the way of the Escape Goat into the wilderness. We simply keep denying the obvious requirement for self sacrifice in order to cease habitual reactive behaviors. Our dreams of tomorrow cannot be guided by the record of the past, because we have rejected the past. This is a psychological malaise of cosmic proportions. It is a form of repressed memories and insanity that has infected the collective unconscious of the whole of Western Civilization. And, it is evidence of poor judgment on the part of the Law Givers. Treatment of an individual with such psychological illness is almost without cure, because what is repressed is the memories that never were. A child that does not know love, does not know that it is repressing love, either. It reacts in defense against what it cannot perceive. Unless the child steps out in faith and sets a new face before God, it cannot reach the Promised Land, nor cross the Leo-Cancer boundary with mind and body in proper function and harmony. Instead, it will perpetually cycle the labyrinth until judgment fails and it is taken back to the material center to try once again. Belief in salvation is both the solution to, and the cause of, the malaise. The Denderah zodiac expresses the solution as teaching the body to seek truth, while teaching the mind to face reality. It is here that the Prince and the Princess can enjoy the ride in the Kingdom of Heaven, and expect the abundance which comes from knowledgeable attention paid to the senses.

The sacrificial lamb held by Perseus on the line of Pisces containing the Eye of Ra, tells us that the Denderah zodiac held the same idea as the Bible in the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. To change the image on the back of the ox leg into a lion, would destroy the logical sequence in the time metaphor of the monument. The time indicated by the vernal equinox at the east line of Pisces is the "end times" of the age of the ram, Aries. And, therefore, the end of the "I Am." Western civilization experienced this loss of identity when the Hellenistic Age came to an end. Here is wisdom, and it is at the mark of the man and the beast, for 666 years after the destruction of the city of Thebes, Egypt, the Age of Pisces began. Only, this would be the first time 3,000 thousand years in which no Pharaoh sat on the throne of Egypt.  The message is clear. The king is dead, but the king will rise again. Precisely as stated in the Pyramid Texts 2400 years earlier. That is continuity, in spite of the loss of the Pharaonic Ages of Taurus and Aries, symbolized by the ox leg and the ram. 

The sacrificial ram concept is self evident. The 666 years can be worked out by using the exact measurements of the monument. But, the idea that it is a rationalization by this author should be put aside. When I saw the meaning of wisdom (Mercury) and the adepts who were a man and a beast, I did the calculations. The accuracy of the calculations does not show that I found what I was looking for, any more than it says that the text of Rev. 13:18 was taken from the Denderah zodiac. But, it does show that the idea existed outside the New Testament. The most commonly used interpretation for the 666 value has been the idea of gemantria, where numbers and letters are associated to provide a hidden message. Many analyses say the number stands for Caesar Augustus. But, this temple was being constructed long before Caesar Augustus became emperor of Rome. If the 666 calibration factor is accurate, then the number has more significance than a manipulation of numbers and letters. From the perspective of designing a sacred scientific monument, which tells the history of Egypt, and has a cosmic timeline, then the man standing precisely 666 years behind the beast of sensibility, whose staff touches the leading edge of the Pisces icon, represents a specific moment in history. The moment just happens to coincide to the year when the city of Thebes was sacked and destroyed, and Egypt was carried off into bondage by the Assyrians. That is a significant date for a nation that was recovering its ancient heritage. The dual existence of the Rev. 13:18 metaphor is further evidence of the correlations of the Book of Q.

Now, as for the escape goat engraved back to back with the baboon under the bird with the crown of upper Egypt, we must realize that the long ears are those of Seth. The bird with the crown of Upper Egypt represents Horus the Younger. The baboon represents the physical body, which, by the way does not have a long tail, making the tail an artifact for communicating a specific point. These three concepts were drawn by priests for Ramesses VI, (1151-1143 BC) more than a millennium before the vernal equinox touched the east line of Pisces. The identity crises on the Denderah zodiac, and on the image from the tomb of Ramesses VI, is that of a forward seeing Horus and a backward recalling Seth. In other words, Horus anticipates the future as cognitive consciousness for the body, and Seth recognizes past consciousnesses for the sake of the body. These two conscious states are always in battle for dominance of decision processes in the mind. They continually weigh the future against the past. Note that the body walks to the right in the precessional direction aligned with Horus, and the recognition of Seth is in the planetary movement direction to the left. 

In creating the sacred scripts of the Greek and Hebrew alphabets, the battle between Horus and Seth is apparent in the way the scripts read. Greek texts are "right running" "followers of Horus." Hebrew texts are "left running" "followers of Seth." However, Seth is an independent rational being, so there is an immediate quandary in discussing the "followers of Seth." A ""follower of Seth" is one who usurps existing conditions, or goes off into the wilderness, alone.  Horus the Elder was the lost second son of Nut, and Abel was the lost second son of Eve. These sons represent the archetypal capacity of rational emotions. In the legends of the "followers of Horus," it is, Seth, the third born son of the Mother of All Living, who kills the archetype of conscious rational emotions, by denial of emotions. In the legends of the "followers of Seth," it is Cain, the first born son of the Mother of All Living, who kills the archetype of conscious rational emotions. In both legends, the son who symbolizes the archetype of conscious rational emotions must wait for a generation to be given the throne of consciousness. The battle between Osiris and Seth is echoed in the battle between Cain and Seth. Only, since the Hebrew Bible is the Book of Seth (Gen 4:26 & Gen 5:1). The important point is that consciousness of rational emotions cannot be had without experience. Once experience has occurred, then the battle between the usurper and the heir will begin. The heir has the added responsibility of restoration and creation. So, it is far easier to rationalize our experiences than it is to use them to create new experiences. Right running is future oriented, and left running is past oriented. Unless Horus can gain control of the rationalizing mind, the experiences will all be equivalent to the way of the planets, as history keeps repeating itself. The fundamental lock of the Sethian mind is that the power to act be based upon what is known. Horus, as the asterism of Columba, is unaware of the threat of Apophis, while Seth, as the asterism of Lepus, is recalcitrant because of recognition of the threat of Apophis. Seth-Lepus is back peddling.

Recognition is a critical ingredient of any learned behavior, whereas future consciousness is required to learn something which can eventually be recognized. Thus, the meat offering of the ox leg and the lamb are part of the cosmic process which we recognize as time. But, to move forward in time, we have to break our gravitational bondage to habits, and accept the Eye of Ra, which is the vision of life to come. This breaking of the historical bondage is a theme ingrained in most every tradition, and yet each tradition creates the bond through its dogma. By pursuing the kingdom of Osiris, Horus repeats past life occurrences. By the same token, the anarchy of Seth creates chaos which eliminates oppressive tradition. Balance is the needed ingredient. That is the meaning of the judgment day scene at the Balance of Ra (10 & 20).

This idea is designed in the layout on the Giza plateau. The Sphinx is waiting for the return of Horus. When the pyramids were constructed the Grand Gallery pointed to the constellation under Orion, the constellation of Seth. That constellation we call Lepus, the rabbit. The Egyptians drew that constellation as the Seth animal. Robert Bauval demonstrated that alignment for 2500 BC in The Orion Mystery (pg. 174), though he never acknowledge that the Grand Gallery pointed to any constellation. Bauval identified the channel rising out of the King's Chamber which pointed to Alnitak, and the north entrance passage which pointed toward Kachob. Bauval did not put Seth and Horus into his interpretation, and he put Osiris down on the southern horizon at the time when the northern vernal sun began to fall. That is a definite misreading of the Book of the Dead, which tells us that Osiris is coming again, and his son Horus will restore the kingdom of Egypt lost to the brother of Osiris, Seth. Had Bauval placed the Giza complex in the proper orientation with regard to precession, he would have seen the following image.

Looking into the face of the Sphinx, when Orion's belt rises in the east, the north entrance passage points to the constellation Cepheus, and the southward rise of the Grand Gallery points to the constellation of Columba, which is below Orion and Lepus. In the westward view behind the face of the Sphinx, we would see Columba going to prepare a place for the onlooker, Cepheus. From the perspective of Cepheus, the King of Kings, we would see the Giza plateau as a reflection of the stars of Orion's belt, as Bauval stated. Looking through the entrance passageway at the point of reflection, the King of Kings would see the grave of the King of Kings over the Bennu and the Ben-Ben, but simultaneously, at the reflection plane we would see Horus returning through the Grand Gallery of the terrestrial Ben-Ben at Giza to the house of the now eternal King of Kings. That is the scene which will be at the Giza plateau when the north pole enters into the constellation of Cepheus. It is the story of the death and resurrection of Osiris, and the battle between Horus and Seth. In Egypt, this myth was historical reality. However, this is the story behind the Sphinx. To see the image the Sphinx is locked on, we have to look eastward through the Giza complex at the same transcendental moment.

In the eastward view, the king has turned away from the grave, and Horus has risen from the empty tomb. That is why the sarcophagus in the King's Chamber never contained a mummy.  It was designed to be an empty tomb for every human being to accept, as an example for life. If we look toward the future, the kingdom of the dead past will return when needed to restore any lost kingdom. In other words, the record of our memories will carry us until we become creative once again.

The Egyptian story of salvation is one in which the child to come will restore the kingdom of Osiris, and release the dead king for all perceived transgressions. In other words, offspring will love their ancestors through awareness of the cosmos they were born into. This spirit can be reincarnated from generation to generation, if a proper record is maintained. For three thousand years the Egyptians had used their necropolises as a means to keep the story of Egypt alive. On the entrance of the vernal equinox into the Age of Pisces, there was no more king of Egypt on Earth. The event occurred precisely on the schedule written into the Giza plateau, and recorded in the Pyramid Texts of the Chapters of Coming Forth by Day. But, most important to Western Civilization, this story was known a hundred years before it actually took place. Sufficient numbers of mature adults had witnessed the coming down to earth of the Word of God, that a whole civilization would be caught up in the process for two thousand years. It is simply a memory we cannot, nor should we, ever forget. That is the message of the Sphinx; remember who you are; a child of the King of Kings.

The awesome beauty of the monuments, and there message is still the greatest wonder of the ancient world. And it will remain so for eternity, because those stars that inspired the story can never be superceded by any folly of the human imagination. It is the folly within Zoroastrian astrology that was being denied by the cosmology of Ptolemaic Egypt, and accepted by Mithrasian Rome. Egypt perceived an eternal plan, while astrology relied solely on the habits of the planets at a moment in time called now. It was fate in action. This is the way of the Usurper. This distinction was again reiterated in the design of the Denderah zodiac, more than a century before the last Pharaoh was murdered by the usurping emperor of Rome, Caesar Augustus. The story was history for 2500 years before it happen. For it can still be seen by anyone who looks through the Eyes of Ra and can "ask questions regarding the vision which created the Great Sphinx."

The Denderah Eye of Ra sits on the east fish of Pisces. In this position, the Eye of Ra is to be associated with the "now" of reality as presented on the zodiac monument. That location is the ancient "wall of the ruler," where boys become kings, and girls become queens. This is the moment memorialized in the pylons of the great temples of Luxor and Karnak, where a street of ram headed sphinxes symbolizes the celestial road. . The northern vernal equinox crossed the east line of Pisces in 30 AD. This is a clear and precise measure of a precessional moment, because the line is nearly perpendicular to the ecliptic. This makes the Denderah monument a Rock of Ages. It tells time in a manner that no other monument has ever done. The time it tells coincides with the 2000 years prior to the arrival of the three stars of Orion's belt on the eastern horizon, and in culmination at the zenith meridian. This moment is locked into the ancient traditions of Western Civilization in the words of Matthew 2:9-10. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. In the period recognized precisely as the beginning of the modern calendar of the West, 1 BC - 1 AD, the constellation of the child, Antinous, which was the child Horus, of Isis and Osiris, came down to the equator and began to rise up again. It is this moment which is memorialized in the words of Matthew, for in the cosmic vision, this is the Gateway of Gods, and the Flight of the Eagle. It is a story behind  almost every great monument building culture the world has ever known. The Son of God had been prophecied to come down to earth, and then ascend into heaven The prophecy is a celestial event, and a spiritual goal.

Thus, the Sphinx which had been watching the east horizon for the ascension of Osiris for 2500 years, had another 2000 years to wait for his return, and the arrival of his son, Horus, to assume the throne of Egypt once again, according to the Denderah zodiac, the Great Sphinx, and the temples at the entrance to the Valley of Kings. This is in direct contrast to the purpose for which Dr. Krupp had used the Denderah monument. When Osiris-Orion reaches that celebrated location, the vernal sun will begin its rise from the depths of the galaxy, which is the cosmic Valley of Kings in the furrow of Maat, as it begins its return to the top of the galaxy and the Elysian fields of Osiris and Isis. Osiris will have carried the Sun through the midnight hour. The proper return of every Osiris was the principle theme of the necropolises in Ancient Egypt for three thousand years, and it appears that Bauval and Hancock had witnessed the return of Osiris, but failed to understand what they saw, just like Dr. Krupp, but they are amateur archeoastronomers, not academic icons. They yielded to intuition, which is the spirit of Isis, and brought the dead man back to life in the incarnation of a new child of heaven.

The story written on the Denderah zodiac is the story of Osiris. It shows how the fourteen parts of Osiris were sacrificed, and how the salvation was effected by the twelve parts of the new celestial path of the planets. The fourteen stars above the boar (39) are an association with the destroyer of the realm of Osiris, who was Seth. The twelve stars under the feet of Aquarius identify the restored awareness of cosmic human experience, which is Osiris, hidden in the path of the precession. The missing constellations of the fourteen parts of the Osiris tradition are Ophiuchus (20) and Orion (35). The Denderah zodiac shows these two constellations as part of the constellations along the ecliptic. But, most important, they use the zodiac constellations along with many more constellations to break the bondage of the fatalistic ideas of the tyrannical Zoroastrian astrology. 

The Denderah zodiac can easily be shown to be the most scientifically accurate monument regarding the precession of the equinoxes that has come down to us from antiquity. The reason why it was constructed can be found in the history of Egypt before Alexander the Great liberated She Who Faces Her Lord. Alexander accomplished a Herculean feat in single handedly mounting armies to defeat the Zoroastrians. This is memorialized by the icon of Hercules (18) holding a torch which is perfectly aligned with the north arrow. A projection of the torch of Hercules passes through the disk of the Enlightened One (22), the head of the goose (21), the head of Mercury (23), Cancer (1), the eye of Leo (12), and the body of a man wearing the double crown of Egypt standing by a square of nine stars. Alexander had United the Two Lands in his conquest for the sake of the Brotherhood of Man, and became the reincarnation of the Son of Amun. This alignment of the torch of Hercules means "this one brought back truth to the Two Lands." We know that it was Alexander who was being honored, because the head of the Hercules icon (18) lays precisely on the time when Alexander freed the Egyptian and Greek world from the Zoroastrian tyranny. The important point is the time, not the man, and time is what is memorialized by the Denderah zodiac.

So, returning to the March 2001 issue of S&T magazine centerfold sky chart we have the following reproductions of the heavens as presented in the centerfold and by The Sky 5, a planetarium software designed and sold by Software Bisque. Click on either image to toggle between them. Examine the stick figures on each to assure that this test can prove that they are representing the same real sky. You will need to go out under the stars to see if either image represents the sky accurately. But, you will need to complete the tasks of Hercules to experience what they say.

The names and the connections between the stars have not been constant throughout the recording of the myths about them. When the Greeks came upon the scene, they desired to make up their own stories about the heavens, as a form of entertainment. Just image you are sitting in an open Greek theatre as the actors and orators tell stories about the heavens directly over your head. To anyone who appreciates the stars, that would be a great thrill. If this were not true, the auditorium at the Griffith Observatory would be an empty place. The ancients found ways to use the actual stars in a movie script about life itself. Today we watch movie stars, a la Greece, and fail to question why the actors are called stars. Our television sets take us around the world, and across unreal territories, in an instant using, the deception of flashing lights. We should not mistake the importance of the heavens as an educational tool for the human race. We had been using them for as long as we have existed. The Roman tyrannies were based upon the Persian star cult, the Mithraic Mysteries. But, with the light and air pollution of today, we need a telescope to see what is over our heads. And through the telescope we see practically nothing compared to what the ancients saw. True, they did not have the opportunity to watch the gods dancing on the cosmic cloud of a super nova in a distant galaxy, but what they saw taught them how to put together great civilizations. If this were not true, we would not have the culture we have today.

Returning to the debate between Krupp's academic cosmos and the Bauval-Hancock intuitive universe, the image of which they claim was placed upon the ground, it should be a little bit clearer why an ancient culture would try to duplicate the heavens on the earth; as above, so below. Anyone who has walked Hollywood Boulevard knows that stars have come down to earth on the sidewalks of that thoroughfare. So now, let's see if the heavens tell us why the man faced lion was chosen by the Egyptians to be carved on the indigenous rock now called the Great Sphinx, and looking eastward.

The following two images present a partial version of the heavens as the Egyptians would have known them. Whether they connected the dots in the same manner can be tested by reading their myths. With the Denderah zodiac image in hand, we can use the actual constellations to decide if there is information in a constellation that does not show up in its icon on the monument. Information such as birth, death, trial, salvation, and fulfillment, can be encoded into the timing and location of the celestial events. This is not a study in astrology. This is a study of the minds of ancient men. Whether they taught and practiced astrology is of no consequence for our purpose here. If they practiced cosmology, then placing the monument in a proper orientation on earth would be equivalent to any religious icon production, only on a grander scale than we are accustomed to. This would verify the Bauval-Hancock design layout hypothesis, and the date of genesis would depend upon the correlation found.

In the Tampa, Florida view of the north axis of the galaxy through Coma Berenices, we can see Virgo and Leo, and Corvis, Crater, Sextans, and Hydra in the heavens above. In the view of the south axis of the galaxy through Sculptor, we can see the "man and the beast" as drawn on the Denderah monument in the heaven's below. There also, is Pisces Austrinus, upon whom the waters of Aquarius are flowing; as it is above so it is below. Also, the large green serpent whose tail has a triangle which the Egyptians called the Ben-Ben, is also visible. Between the man holding the "scepter of flint" and the triangular top of the discarded obelisk is a bird rising across the River Eridanus. That bird is the Phoenix, and the man is Osiris, as Seker-Asar. Go back and click on the axes of the galaxy and see what happens when the man throws down his "scepter of flint" toward the large green serpent, the true Egyptian Apophis. Keep a close eye on the green serpent and what the man does with that serpent. If you do, you will see that the man stands with one foot on the ecliptic and one foot on the Milky Way as he raises that serpent to the Elysian Fields, where it is placed under the Virgin. There, the Hydra serpent is in the river of Upper Egypt, as Hydrus from below the Barque of Ra is converted through Serpens at Ophiuchus to Hydra under the woman where the Crow, the Crater, and the Sextans identify the subliminal desire to reach heaven above. This fantasy accomplishment is the same result achieved when a man converts his subliminal emotions, through analysis of his place in the cosmos, into rational perceptions of his place in creation. It opens the Eye of Ra, and the man crosses the boundary between Leo and Cancer into eternal life. The prince on the back of Leo is another representation of the celestial message which is the Mystery of the Sphinx. The Parousia of these visions is an essence within itself, and to those who see it, a sense of awe is carried with the vision.

WHO WAS RIGHT?

As we complete this journey from academia to pyramids, have we shown anything that would motivate a culture to build great pyramids and monuments? In fact, what we have shown is that place which motivated the Egyptians to do their best to protect mankind's understanding of the cosmic plan, i.e., divine empirical science. The empirical observations were done in a place called Upper and Lower Egypt. Between, on the plane of the Milky Way, a lonely planet races with its siblings around a lack luster star in a place of such incredible beauty, that an organism on that planet would resolve to bring the heavens below and the heavens above to one place, which they called Rostau. So, it would seem that the amateur scientists have surpassed the academic scientists in explaining the motivations of the ancients. Though Bauval and Hancock correctly saw the heavens constructed along the banks of the Nile, they  misinterpreted the time frame. And here also is where the great academic archeoastronomer failed his calling. Had Krupp understood the subject of his own books, he would have immediately realized that Bauval and Hancock were only off by 13,000 years. The correct time for the resurrection of Osiris is not 10,500 BC, but the dawn of the Age of Aquarius, when the northern vernal sun begins to rise from the depths of the cosmic abyss, and the fallen sun is saved by mother's favorite son, the compassionate one which says to the lamenting woman, "I Know."

In late October 1998, the northern vernal sun passed the lowest position in the galaxy, and it began its journey back to the heavens above. This bottomless pit, where a man holds a trident in his hands, is also the place ruled by Poseidon, at the bottom of the cosmic sea. Look again, there is a whale hovering over the man with the scepter of flint. Thus, if Atlantis is ruled by Poseidon, and Atlantis fell into the sea 13,000 years ago, then Atlantis is that place where a Barque marks the lower axis of the cosmic earth, and a white dragon, or pregnant hippopotamus, marks the upper end of that same axis, as highlighted in yellow on the S&T centerfold. 

Of course, none of this makes any rational sense, if we have the modern scientific vertigo which afflicts the science of Dr. Krupp, and the pseudo-science of the likes of Bauval-Hancock intuition. In the mundane sciences, up and down are arbitrary. In fact, the modern scientists tend to believe that up is the direction away from the surface of the earth. That is until they send a telescope into the heavens. Then the modern scientists recognize that cosmic travel requires that one know which way the telescope is pointed. Which way is up to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST)? Interestingly, north is up. That is the same way the Egyptians saw it over 5,000 years ago. Like the HST, the Egyptians used the stars to conger their orientation in the cosmos. They never saw the planet as a restriction of bondage by gravity, they saw the planet as their spaceship. It is for the sake of cosmic orientation, and the measurement of time, that all great cultures constructed their monuments. In the spiritual awe that this wisdom revealed to them, they chose to worship that place they called home. And they chose to mark the routes of the journey for future travelers. Modern science sees folly in any form of worship.

They learned that the "law giver" is just a tyrant who does not understand the subliminal aspects of himself, nor of the cosmos. The "law giver" is a usurper who tries to establish a kingdom of his own by dictating truth from a book, while failing to put book learning to a test. Look again under the front paws of the lioness (28)  near Libra (10), and the square between the fish of Pisces (5). These rectangles with squiggling lines represent rational knowledge. It is the instinctive learning at the school of the Teacher of Righteousness (28) that is used to evaluate the book learning encompassed by Pisces and Andromeda on the Denderah zodiac. 

Also note that there are only a few characters that face backward. They are marked with a black asterisk in the marching icon figures. These include the Teacher of Righteousness (28), who is looking back toward the coming neophyte. The child and the crow (30) at the crone of Cassiopeia (30), which represent the telling of legends of the past for the sake of the future. Taurus is shown looking backward but moving forward physically (3). This is telling us that Taurus represented physical accomplishment, and looked backward mentally, as modern athletes are prone to do. Aries is switched compared to Taurus, and is facing forward with the body recumbent in the backward direction (4). Aries is the consummate academic, whose head strong tendencies often prevent physical accomplishment. Above Aries there is a young ram at the ox leg (15), and a goat (16) by the baboon and hawk. The young lamb faces forward, but its body is oriented backward in time, and the ram is clearly the sacrificial lamb, for the ox leg says it is a "meat offering." The goat is apparently an  escape goat, for it avoids the meat offering as a rationalization of inspired physical existence; goat, hawk, baboon. Perseus is holding a young lamb whose head is pointed backwards (17) in a clear sacrificial condition. 

A close review of the "goat" behind the baboon and under the hawk reveals the Seth animal, as stated above. We need to revisit this fallen angel to better understand why his archetype has been abandoned. Seth was the usurping brother of Osiris. He symbolized the usurpation of self rationalizations. On the Denderah zodiac, we see that the victim of self rationalizations is the mother, as a result of the dreams of the maiden for her champion prince. Seth has a good side which is the neter of divine self recognition. In other words, selfishness was acceptable, and divine, provided it did not become a usurping consumption. In the excess, divine self recognition becomes the selfish pig or the stubborn donkey in the vignettes from the Book of the Dead (Chapters of Coming Forth by Day). When selfishness is an escape goat, it is turned away from the sanctity of the altar and released into the wilderness of self creation. The Denderah clearly indicates that the lamb of God is sacrificed, but it also indicates that the headless body of a man in the form of a beast of burden is what is revealed in the Lamb of God. This then is the crux of the message. We have to sacrifice recognition of self divinity in order to progress to the highest level. The eighth king must be eliminated, because he is of the first seven. 

The death of Aries is the death of the "I Am" (4). This death has been extremely difficult for Western Culture to accept. We have called the northern most position of the annual sun the Tropic of Cancer, and the southern the tropic of Capricorn, while we call the vernal equinox the 1st of Aries, for two thousand years after they ceased to be what there names indicate. During the whole time that the northern summer solstice was located in the twins of Gemini, whose motto is "I Think," humanity never thought about the loss of cosmic cognition which Roman astrology had caused in our calendars. During that same period when the northern winter solstice was in Sagittarius (8), "I See," we never "saw" the vision of our historical consciousness. During the time when Pisces should have held the Tabernacle of the Sun, we spent the precessional degrees in Pisces (5), "I Believe," believing that truth would someday return to the lost classical world of Rome, Greece, and Egypt. What Egypt had accomplished was the continuation of historical memory for three thousand years. The process was destroyed by the empire of Rome, and a man who became god in 30 AD. That man in history was Caesar Augustus. Thus, before the ancient memories can be brought back, the Western World will have to see the death of the "son of Seth" called Augustus, and the rebirth of the "son of Horus" called Alexander..

Current recognition will not allow such apparitions to enter into the collective consciousness. This is a subliminal form of usurpation, because the body cannot be served properly if it relies totally upon recognition. The body needs cognition in order to learn. Cognition is the hawk of Horus with the crown of upper terrestrial Egypt, i.e. Southern Egypt south of Memphis. This pure white crown is the crown of youth. And youth is the cognition stage of the rational mind. Divine Consciousness is self consciousness in balance with Cosmic Consciousness. In order to acquire Divine Consciousness an Egyptian had to be raised from the dead. Or, in less mythological terms, he had to cease doing the habitually recognized behaviors and begin to learn again the ways of Thoth and Seshat. In order for Western Culture to reacquire Divine Consciousness, we have to acknowledge the injustice forced upon Egypt, and our cosmic perspectives, by the spirit of Seth which has prevailed for the last two thousand years. The Hellenists tried for three hundred years, but were destroyed by the "followers of Seth," who chose to follow the planets in a gravitational fall into the rational consciousness of our astrological being.

The head that is missing from the bent over body of a man is the head of Seth. Conscious recognition must be sacrificed before new truths can be incarnated. A body cannot sense what the intimidated rationalizing mind prohibits. Thus, it is the egocentric self aggrandizement that must be sacrificed. But, self aggrandizement was the dream of the mother when she attempted to set up the image of Kingdom Come. In other words, the heroic principle, itself, must be recognized and then eliminated, before a neophyte can see across the Leo-Cancer boundary. The escape goat provides more time to prepare for the inevitable judgment of the place called now. When that judgment is properly accomplished the psychic being will become a totally different person than the one recognized prior to the judgment. The death and resurrection is not a physical death, it is a psycho-spiritual transcendence. Without fear, the ego yields to the need to search for unrecognizable consciousness, and accepts the intuitive messages which reveal new consciousness. The new conscious entity is, for the most part, reincarnated consciousness from the past, born again in a new and more youth filled body. This is not the memory recognition of personal physical experience, but cognition of experience which had existed in prior lives, and other bodies, the Greek Parousia. This deja vu process can carry with it the feeling of having been there in an earlier moment of the personal physical life. That feeling is clearly a spiritual reincarnation, not a personal memory. This process has definite material and spiritual boundaries in its genesis, but the boundaries have no significance in the result within the conscious mind. Once the belief is reincarnated as original memory, regardless of its source, the conscious results are the same. Whether it becomes dementia, or inspiration, it is a leap of faith to believe in something unseen. The action we are speaking about is spiritual communication, faith. This is the province the Egyptians credited to Seshat, the wife of Thoth. That moment is when the eight bound kings are released from habit, as implied by the circle within the wheel of the Denderah monument (47). The Great Shepherd (46) releases the compulsion to be satisfied (swan in 46) by the ego trip. External prior knowledge, Thoth, is accepted, and external inspiration, Seshat, bring the ego down to size, as the Humble Shepherd (48) journeys with rational inspiration. This occurs when the self perception is balanced (10) with righteous (28) judgment. If the balance is not struck, the dementia takes control of the body, and the sacrificial journey repeats itself, or wanders in a chaotic wilderness.

Thus, the last figure with a backward attitude before Judgment Day is the Donkey Man in the sacrificial position of Andromeda (37), after losing the material struggle with Anubis-Lupus as Centaurus straddling the Southern Cross at the place of the skull. The icon looks like a headless horse, until a close examination of the legs shows human hands and feet, and no tail. The man has lost his head and has been turned into a beast of burden. This is an artistic way of saying the man has made and ass of himself by not using his head. Judgment day is coming, and if the head is not on straight, the man will remain a self bound beast of burden.

There is one other figure that appears to be oriented in a backward direction. That is the icon of Cancer. But, as we will show in a figure below, the Cancer icon represents the Creator, and the Creator is not shown looking backward. The Creator is shown looking downward toward the prince who reaches the throne on Leo. This is the boundary between Leo and Cancer, which all mortal rational beings sharing the Eye of Ra have an instinctive desire to cross. This boundary is where the Egyptians United the Two Lands. The upper land is the true eternal domain. The lower domain is the limited experiential reality. Only those individuals who learn that reality is the Kingdom of Heaven can look across this boundary and view into the Face of God.

When wisdom comes to our modern scientific ways, we too will come to realize that it pays to listen to the birds and the bees. They have been using shadows and stars to orient themselves for hundreds of millions of years. Before we forgot how to use the heavens to orient our daily lives, we too wandered the face of the earth using the heavens to guide us. In Egypt, the Wandering Ones were called the Shemsu Hor, or the Followers of Horus, we know them as the Israelites. So where is Horus? He is the Kite which has the nesting materials in his mouth in the Duat of Lower Egypt. Upon first impression, it appears that the Kite is about to make a nest in the mouth of a great serpent, Apophis. But, we have to see the big picture to understand that the Tree of Life to Ancient Egypt was the Milky Way. They and the Maya knew it as the Way of the Dead. But, it is also the Way of the Living. This is also the route of the flight of Isis through the Duat, between Sirius and Altair, to recover her dead soul mate, Osiris. This flight of Isis myth makes visual and metaphorical sense, if the Egyptians had drawn the constellations as they are shown in the star chart of the Duat of Lower Egypt. This is the Message of the Sphinx; the king must return to the heavens above.

In the total scheme of life on earth, the percent of time for which a person is not alive so exceeds the tiny fraction for which a person is alive, that for each one of us, we are simply the dead wandering in the cosmos. We read books and follow the examples of people who are no longer alive. And though they be in their own afterlife, they live on in the land of Kingdom Come. 

For the likes of Tutankhamun, who lived barely eighteen years, the 3200 years which he waited in the ground to be found are nearly 180 times the length of time he was alive. He has had far more to say in his afterlife than he said during his stay in reality. He, more than any other Pharaoh, survived with one complete record of how it used to be. 

He was the only Pharaoh who wore the vulture and the uraeus on his diadem. These icons of upper and lower Egypt, are actually the icons of southern and northern Egypt, and they are the southern and northern constellations at the galactic plane, Aquila and Serpens. Thus, in the cosmic domain the creatures of Upper and Lower Egypt are the reverse of what they are relative to the Nile River on earth. In the cosmic domain, they mark the way of the dead for the child Horus as his body is returned to the upper heavens in the asterisms of Aquila-Antinous, and the dream is restored in the upper heavens through the asterisms of Ophiuchus-Serpens, as Bootes and Virgo reach for heaven above. The route through Antinous is still memorialized in the words of Luke 2:12. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. The manger is the galaxy, with the ear of corn at its upper most position.

These constellations have been recognized covertly and overtly for untold thousands of years. They stand at the entrance in the Gateway of Gods. Here is where a child mounts up on the wings of an eagle, and become the spirit of youth in a man. In Egypt, the eagle of Aquila was the vulture of Isis, who had changed into a Kite-Columba to save her husband Osiris-Sculptor, and brought a new  Horus-Antinous into the sacred lands of Upper Egypt. This dream of a celestial plan has guided humanity for thousands of years. It says that care for children is the fountain of youth. And though most "believers," who are the Followers of Horus, are not consciously aligned with the asterism, they walk with a spirit on the wings of an eagle. Tutankhamun lived and died and came back to the land of the living in time to be here when the sun began to rise, precisely as the Book of the Dead said it would be. History has shown us that he who wore both emblems of the double crown was the Chosen One. Egypt united the Two Lands in Tut-Ankh-Amun, who was born Tut-Ankh-Aten. 

And, it is the symbol of the Horizon of Aten that is worn on the head of King Tut-ankh-aten. The uraeus which drops down from the diadem at an angle, and then rises from the lowest position is a symbol of the vernal equinox when it passes the lowest position in the galaxy. The location of the heretic Pharaoh Akhenaten's city, Akhetaten, is such that the axis of the galaxy passes over its zenith, when the vernal sun begins to rise from the depths of the galaxy. At that same moment, the Glory of the Lord shines round about the sacred city. This symbolism is a clear indication that the sacred city was the axis of the cosmos, and the navel of the universe, which is precisely how they drew it.

Count the sun discs on the feathered crown of King Tut and realize that eleven have been given their place in the crown. The place for the twelfth sun is ready, but that time had yet to pass, when King Tut was physically alive. These twelve suns are the zodiac positions, and the cap and diadem tell us when the vernal sun will begin to rise. It is when the Eye of Re sits at the lowest position in the path of the ecliptic, going from left to right in the image on the back of King Tut's throne. However, the diadem is three dimensional, and thus, there is a left running perception on the opposite side. The left running image is the annual path of the sun, and the planets. The twelve suns are the early image of the zodiac houses. Of all the acts attributed to the reign of Tut-ankh-aten, it is the rebuilding of the temples to the ancient gods that is most significant. The heretics had seen the future, and they had tried to make it come to pass during the reign of Akhenaten, with the clear purpose of avoiding the death of Aries, the "I Am," and fulfilling the legend of Osiris. However, the world was not ready for a totalitarian beneficence crafted through the rational tyranny of the Atenists. That battle was postponed from 1350 BC until 30 AD, and then the death of Western Culture became history, precisely as prophesied by the Great Pyramids at Giza. The twelfth sun never rose in the lands called Western Culture, instead we became hung up in the astrologic rituals of the Aryans, because we were not ready to accept the death and resurrection of Osiris. Two thousand years have passed since the Aryans failed to let go of their day in the vernal sun. Now, as the doors are closing on the Age of Pisces, it is becoming clear that we have been a "generation of vipers," for the chaos between Seth and Apophis has consumed our cosmic consciousness, and the nesting goal of Horus has been forgotten in an egocentric struggle to survive.

For a brief instant called life, we can raise up our subliminal perceptions and we can become alive. The whole of civilized human behavior has been less than 60,000 years. Compared to the 5 billion years the sun has been shining, the span of human civilization is equivalent to one second in a day. Though the physical life is a paltry fraction of the solar life of the substance of our bodies, the Egyptians felt sufficiently inspired to write a book called The Chapters of Coming Forth By Day. They wrote the book so that people who followed them, their own children, would not waste the opportunity given to them. Now, we sit at the very moment they called Sep Tepi, the Moment of the First Occasion, as forecast by the building of the heretic's City of God, Akhetaten. We are the cosmic children waiting in a Shepherd's ancient dung ball to find out what, and who, we are. We are waiting because we have not acknowledged that we once were who we were. When the 1st of Aries no longer marks the place of the northern vernal sun, the Age of Pisces will have arrived. Late by two thousand years, but, better late than never.

If we were to go above and beyond the top of the galaxy and look back toward the solar system in a projection shown to the left, we would see the image of the Milky Way outlined in blue. The brownish area within the yellow outline is the dark area above the Milky Way inverted for the perception from above. This image has the outline of the Denderah crab of Cancer (1). Now that we have space telescopes and can see other galaxies, this metaphor of the cosmic dung ball applies more in our Big Bang universe than it did during the three millenniums of Egyptian temple rituals. In our knowledge, the galaxy has shrunk to be equivalent to a grain of sand on a beach. Our image of Creation has grown substantially since Egypt, though our image of the Creator has shrunk with the depth of our knowledge. This was the threat perceived by the ancients; that we would know more than we could understand, and be educated beyond our intelligence, for that is precisely what the reign of Akhenaten proved.

Our objective in this essay was to provide evidence to demonstrate why the Egyptians would go to the trouble to put the heavens which surround Orion on the monumental grounds of the west bank of the Nile. The answer is fairly simple to comprehend from the Giza plateau. There, west is where the stars go down, and the east is where the stars come up. The east is the future, and the west is the past. There, south is temporal, and the north is eternal. They watched the eastern horizon waiting for the Osiris's of the past to return from the western horizon, and rise up with the morning sun like Antinous in the clutches of Khephera. It is a theme that kept the Egyptian culture alive on the earth for over three thousand years, and safe in the empty tombs for another 2000 years. And now the ancient body of Osiris has begun to rise from its grave. Neb-Khephru-Re is the name on the cartouche of Tutankhamun, and like Antinous, he wore the emblems of the Two Lands, and like Antinous, he has remained in the grasp of Khephera.

Egyptology has uncovered the history of Western Civilization, and we have found that it came up out of Egypt. By looking east, the Sphinx represents a constant vigilance for the day of reckoning, when we come before the face of the Creator. Any prince, or princess, consciously riding with the Sphinx that day, will know that reality is where these magical events take place. And from that day forward, they will follow the example of the Sphinx and keep riding toward the future truths, while paying close attention to the Cosmic Intent.

DUAT, ELYSIAN FIELD, AND GRAND UNIFIED THEORY

The failing of Dr. Krupp to see what his eyes had sensed is not a fault of his judgment, for he has done the best his education could teach him. The fault is in our cultural loss of the perception of the sanctity which is in our cosmic science. We deny ancient science in order that we can remain secure in our Seth like modern science. The stars are burning balls of gas for both ages. Yet, the ancients knew, from experience, that the stars are just the medium through which the ancestors communicate in the afterlife. Our modern insecurity is a direct result of denying that this place called reality is a benevolent cosmos. In Darwin's survival of the fittest world, there was no benevolent purpose. To regain the lost  perception of benevolence, we have to go the way of Tauret, and rediscover the material path of human understanding by sacrificing our limited self image. We have to start over again to learn that we are being benefited by the material universe. Then, the next time we are given the test at the balance, we can join the son of a king and look squarely, and honestly, into the face of the Creator across the Leo-Cancer boundary. This idea was drawn on the Giza plateau, and on the Denderah zodiac, and on the cartouche of Neb-Khephru-Re, to preserve the wisdom of, as it is above, so it is below. From the lion's position of pride, we can learn the value of feelings, and that is where and how we communicate with the Creator. Without self esteem, we cannot see ourselves, much less the Creator. The Egyptians knew of Leo, and they held Leo in highest esteem. But, we cannot forget that the Egyptians had sufficient historical record to know the message in Proverbs 16:18. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. The Nefer-rohu Papyrus explains, in detail, the problem with a lion's den. It is was echoed in the wisdom of Zechariah 10:11, which explains our loss of the scepter of Egypt over the last 2000 years. And he shall pass through the sea with affliction, and shall smite the waves in the sea, and all the deeps of the river shall dry up: and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the scepter of Egypt shall depart away.

Steven Hawking has declared in a Brief History of Time, that once the goal of modern cosmology to find the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) has been achieved, "there will be nothing for a God to do." But, if the Denderah zodiac, and the monuments on the Giza plateau with the Sphinx have anything to say, the Creator will have more work than ever trying to convince each academic prodigal son of Western Civilization that he should listen to his gut more often. If the prodigal son does so, he won't lose his head, while there is still time to use it. It seems to me, that that is a job that even the Creator may not have sufficient resources to accomplish, for limited time is of the essence, and pride is so desirable. But, of course that is just my gut feeling, not a recognized science. 

I still see this Donkey Man (37) at the altar of God fighting the Wolf that is protecting the entrance to the cosmic womb on the southern horizon of the heavens above (Centaur, Ara, Norma, Lupus). Others may see the wolf, Lupus, and the Centaur of Greece, but when I connect the dots on heaven's chalkboard, a Donkey Man stands upon the Southern Cross at the south shore of Olympus above the place of the lost skull, as the Cosmic Barque flounders in the waves with the Feather of Truth on its bow, and no captain at its helm. I just hope the Donkey Man is not me, for like Dr. Krupp, Bauval, and Hancock, I too have crossed the boundary between Leo and Cancer. But, if it is me, then I will recognize the need to reorient the obelisk with the Ben-Ben which is going down, so the Phoenix can rise from the depths of Atlantis beneath that vast cosmic sea where Horus flies over Apophis on the flight of Isis, through the stone where a dead man is the foundation of a pillar in the house of a king, and the eternal child rises to heaven above on the wings of an eagle. 

Truth? Or nonfiction? You decide. If you understand the pictures that have been converted to words, by now it should be clear that the Egyptians, along with untold millions of other travelers on this spaceship called Earth, saw a Sacred Science. They thought it best to Unite the Two Lands by bringing the heavens down to earth and raising the earth up to the heavens. Don't you think it is time we agree?
